There was a power outage, the UPS kicked in .... I shut down the PC and then turned the UPS off as I was going to be away for 72 hours.

On returning, I power up the UPS , wait 30 minutes, press power button on PC....

Nothing, not a click, the PSU does not kick in ....nothing...

So.... thinking the UPS has fecked out, I plug PC directly into mains....

Same Result.... nothing....

RIGHT! rip out the PC from next to the desk, unplugging all kinds of wires.... open her up, reseat RAM, make sure all connectors are in place ......use a different plug.....

Same Result... nothing....

Next, swap out PSU with another newish PSU...... also removed graphic card and all HDD, a naked PC...

Press Button .... Nothing....

Next, got out me multimeter to test continuity of the switch, that was fine....

I have now exhausted all possibilities, save for the MB having a bad solder on it or it's blown....

Doctors! So do we concur, MB messed or have I failed to troubleshoot something?

tried with a different PSU? all plugged in properly?
shorting on backplate of case?

had this weird issue a few weeks back after cleaning the dust out my PC, plugged everything in,
beeping,reset everything, beeping, checked all cables, especially the small one next to the CPU,

eventually working perfectly,

best way is unplug everything, then plug one by one, until it fails once again.


just a matter of finding out what it is.

First thing, not sure how old your PC is, but once everything is plugged in, does the little light on the motherboard switch on? As already mentioned, try borrow a different PSU to test: they're more likely to go than motherboards.

This is the only other possibility, isn't it? Have you tried a different plug point?

Another case when UPS cause PC to fail, instead ot protecting it.

Test the PSU first by shorting out 2 pins on the connector. If the fan comes on PSU should be ok. Connect to MB with all other devices disconnected. Press power on, if the fan doesnt start up MB and/or CPU is fried.

If it starts up then connect one thing at a time and repeat test.

I'm +1 on that. that board sounds like she's dead as a doornail.

Probably the mobo.. if you remove all the ram and power on, you should hear beeping depending on whether your mobo has a speaker or not..

If you hear beeping with all non essentials and ram removed, mobo and CPU is good.. if you hear no beeping with the same test, bum CPU or bum mobo..

Changed PSU
Used a Different Plug
Checked Continuity of Power button
Unplugged all devices
Unplugged ram
Checked for swollen Caps

Ordered a new MB...... :erm:

Did you reset CMOS ram ? ie short the pins to clear possibly corrupted CMOS ram on MB to revert to default state. This can cause the MB to not enter POST and appear dead.

Yes this and if battery is dead MB may also not boot...
