Is it true that coloureds aren't eligible for BEE stats?

I spoke to someone who owns his own business over the weekend, and apparently with the new labour laws coloureds cannot be counted towards BEE stats anymore.

Can anyone confirm?

As you rightly said, an amendment to BEE legislation is envisaged. It will be done to the Employment Equity Act. It boils down to (more or less) this: that the national demographics of the economically active population must be used when affirmative action is applied.

It would make more sense to use provincial or regional demographics. Who are the economically active population? People who are working and/or actively looking for work?

Why would a government favour foreign nationals for classification as 'previously disatvantaged' yet won't recognize the status of their own people born and bred in this country. If a business is national, national demographics will be used.

If a business is provincial, then provincial demographics will be used.
