Is it true that coloureds aren't eligible for BEE stats?

I though people of Chinese descent counted towards BEE. Not? How come them and not Coloured people?

That, silentbee is a very good question.

Why would a government favour foreign nationals for classification as 'previously disatvantaged' yet won't recognize the status of their own people born and bred in this country. Huge case of double standards IMO, but then we've come to expect that from the racist organization that is the ANC, not?

The difference is that it is two distinct ethic groups.

I am not sure what you are aiming at by asking what the difference is.

Had you bothered to read through the thread you would have been able to follow the discussion better. They are two distinct ethinic groups that are born and bred in SA hence there is no differentiation between Coloureds and Chinese (as far as BEE benefits)

It's called a thread for a good reason, Blunomore. You can't read one post in isolation.

Fine, let's use grade one tactics on you then.

YOU SAID :
1. Is there any significant difference between Coloureds and Chinese?

2. The modern South African Chinese are also born and bred in SA just as the Coloureds are.

I SAID:

The difference is in their ethnicity.

The same way Coloureds and Indians have different ethnicities.
The same way Coloureds and Whites have different ethnicities.
The same way Coloureds and Blacks have different ethnicities.

Get it?

Ok, I give up. Clearly I am unable to express this in way that you can understand.

The Chinese are classified in South Africa as black people.
Even in the New South Africa....

Ok, now I didnt know that... how can they be classified as black though? how did that come about?

Apartheid & BEE both suck. I sincerely wish everyone in this country would just drop all this race crap once and for all. As someone else mentioned, put the best candidate in the position, the best company winning the tender. Klaar. We'll all be a lot better off.

Chinese are classified as "Coloured" for AA and EE purposes.

A hight court ruling actually reclassified them as black, but then the actual AA or EE policies could be different.

I recall that, strictly speaking, they should be classified as Chinese but most PC systems did not make provision for it, hence it was defaulted to "Coloured". I had to "reclassify 2 of my staff after this ruling.

The grouping of "black people" for EE and BBBEE therefore covers Africans, Coloureds, Indians and Chinese.

Making the ruling, Judge Cynthia Pretorius granted an order in terms of which Chinese South Africans are to be included in the definition of "black people" in terms of the BBBEE and EE Acts that cover Africans, Coloureds and Indians.

The Chinese community approached the high court for a ruling to regard them as black people a few years ago.
At the time there was a thread on this forum about this.

If i recall correctly, they asked for this ruling to be able to take advantage of BEE and AA.

Currently the BEE beneficiaries are people that were disenfranchised prior to 1994 (Africans) and 1983 (Indians and Coloureds)

But it does not work like that in practise.

I know of companies that have black African directors that are US nationals and these companies qualify for BEE. Also know of a coloured guy born in South Africa that went to school in the UK got his degree from Oxford came back to South Africa, and he is now director at the company and the company qualifies for BEE.
