Sapphire ATi Radeon 3870 PCI-E x16 512MB, DDR4

Used for 6 months by buddy, now wants R400 for it.

I currently have a 8600GT, 512MB, DDR3

Do I take it or not? (in terms of price, not performance)

Thanks, am well aware of performance gap, more concerned on pricing. When last did anyone have an issue when swopping from nVidia to ATi? Some time ago (remember my age!) it did cause a few hassles and you ended up reloaded Windows and not only uninstalling drivers and loading new drivers!

Ummmm, let me think about it... NO !!! I actually bought it a few months ago and have just been too busy to install it. And now I'm sitting in Centurion for a few months on a project and missing my baby (the PC!!!), oh, and my wife and kids.

What is a fair price for the 8600GT ? 1 year old

You could probably get about R500 for it.
When I sell them on Bid or Buy, the go for about R4 - 500

Definitely go for it if not planning on upgrading for a while.

It's nearly equal to the 8800gt in performance....that is a very good price for it. But then again it isn't up to scratch compared to newer GPUs, so it depends whether you really do need it or you need something more powerful. up to you bud.

I don't think you could 500 bucks for a 8600gt unless your selling to a nooblet :p

Take the 8600gt, send it with a bag of poo to nvidia's head quarters and ask them what they where thinking when they made such a piece of crap.

I might be old, but am still a nOOb on forums! Taking lessons from my kids...

I need a new display card for my server; I'll give you R200?? Then you get a 3870 for R300 and I get a 8600 for R200 - everybody is happy :)
