So, bwana, have you decided what you're going to buy?
while i drool at the FF and 1D series cameras, the 50D for me is awesome coupled with good glass. I haven't yet outgrown the features of the camera and shooting speed, resolution and noise is acceptable for my purposes. I would have jumped at buying the kit for R10k - assuming there wasn't any customs payed when bringing in. Pretty sure you'd be able to sell the kit again in a year for 8.5-9k. So if you look at it you rented a 50D for 1.5k for a year. Thats worth it i think.
I've noticed that the vultures in JNB arrivals have stopped their BS - I always felt that they were looking for back-handers, and or, to see if it was worth alerting their buddies outside to follow you home to mug you (no more customs declaration or arrival cards which also stymied the "inside crims".)
No more long queue's to get through immigration.
Back OT.
I'm just a amateur enthusiast so no way's in a position to offer advice to some of the Pro's here.
I'm in the US now and will be looking at replacing my 30D with the 50D (I have two good EF-s lens' so I'll stick with the 1.6 crop)- my 30D has about 12000 clicks on it and still does such a great job, so it's a tough decision, but will upgrade my wife from the 350D to the 30D as part of the motivation.
I also need to look at a new laptop first - my company's getting tough on using their laptop for personal app's.
My very handy holster that was a snug fit for my 30D with 17-55 attached, is in my lost baggage, so I got myself one of these small back-packs (Lowepro Fastpack 100) from BestBuy for day trips - I now have place to carry the 10-22 on day trips.Leaning towards the 1D... and a new bag![]()
Her hands are very small and a good match for the smaller 350D body, but she's still comfortable with the 30D, and I guess the lugging around will be done by me.You think the missus is going to be keen to lug around a much larger camera?
