Is it worthwhile to cough up extra for SAOL than digichilli?

Just applied for my Telkom landline to be activated - free installation if Closer package is chosen etc R145 p/m

Now - I live in East London and they told me adsl in my area is on fibre and not copper.

Which option would you guys recommend for an Eastern Cape oke?

1. Signup with XDSL - 1GB + 384kbs line R159 p/m
then signup with digichilli SPICY for R300
Total cost p/m R604 pm
Get uncapped (hopefully) and 1gb to fall back on

2. Signup with SAOL R499 p/m uncapped
Total Cost p/m R644 pm

From what I read on the forums about Digichilli is that they are slowly but surely working on their problems.
SAOL don't seem to have as many issues as Digichill at the moment.

Should I really cough up the extra cash and go for SAOL 384k uncapped?

Will be mainly downloading from megashares, rapidshare etc and few torrents.

SAOL's has stopped selling their uncapped account , as far as I know.. (if not already, soon)

Still advertised on their website and when I emailed support they said I could signup for it?

Still available afik. It was stopped for a short while, but brought back again.
If you go with SAOL your line will be moved to them, taken away from Telkom. That is 1 of the biggest considerations, before moving to SAOL.
SAOL had a couple of hick-ups in the last week or two, but I think all the ISP had a rough period in this time frame.
It seems the greater percentage of users are happy with the service level at SAOL.
It just that line thing that is an issue for me. It might not be an big issue, but I just don't like it.

I also don't want to be stuck with them and someone else comes out with a cheaper option etc.
If I go with XDSL I have a 1gb backup for when digichilli has issues, only thing is digichilli seem to have many issues....you think they will get their act together anytime soon?

I would definately recommend you get SAOL.

I've used Digichilli for 6 weeks - was 6 weeks of hell. Been on SAOLl for two weeks and its a lot more stable, staff is helpful and and know their stuff.

But, if things on the Digichilli side do improve (and I hope they do), and you want to go with your first option , then change it to the following :

1. Signup with SAOL - 1GB + 384kbs line R95 p/m
then signup with digichilli SPICY for R300
Total cost p/m R540 pm

Don't you mean he'll pay R395?

Line rental + 1Gb from SAOL = R95
Digichilli Spicy = R300
Total cost = R395

I cant find Line rental + 1GB for R95 on their website?
Can you post a link?

I see 24 month contract though - pay R138 for 12months then R189 for the other 12 months, includes free 1 port router

I included the voice-line rental - thats what he did in his original post.

I was really hoping that Digichilli would turn out well (they were first out the gate with uncapped offerings, after all) but unfortunately things did not turn out all that well for them. Hopefully they'll get their network sorted at some point. Just doesn't look like that's going to be right now. Another factor against them is this whole bursting issue; you're not really getting value for money if you only have a 384k line.

At this point I'd have to say that SAOL does offer best value for money. I'm still not entirely comfortable about the fact that I had to move my line to them, but that is the (admittedly small) sacrifice you have to make to sign up with them. If some better/faster offer comes along in the future we'll just have see what happens. Not sure how much of an inconvenience it's going to be to move your line again.

I was going to sign up for the SAOL simply uncapped package though Im kind of confused. They say if you already have adsl it will cost 700 rand and if youre just signing up it will cost 500 rand. How would this make a difference to them(if the client previously had adsl or not...?) What happened to the 500 rand uncapped package that included line rental?

i would go with digichilli, sure they having some problems but so does ever new company, just give them some time....... they will be worth it

Well after they shortly stopped their offer it is 699 for new customers who transfer from other ISP or 499 for new ADSL customers or when being invited by a SAOL customer.

I don't think the transfer of the line is not a real issue as it doesn't seem that any of the reliable ISPs will be coming up with a reasonable uncapped solution anywhere in the near future.

Nothing extreme really. They cancel the ADSL line and You apply again at Telkom and do a self install. No cash lost that way!
