Is my PC ready for an upgrade?

So i finally have the cash to buy myself a new GPU, i was thinking of getting a GTX570 but im not sure if my current setup will be able to handle it, here are my specs:

OS
Windows XP Home Edition

MY current GPU is a NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT
 
The 570 will be bottlenecked quite badly by that system, unless you can clock it a bit more..
Do you have a power supply big enough to handle a 570? (at least 650w)

If not, consider going the ATi route.

Also, I think you should have 4GB of memory and not just two if you're looking to get a bigger CPU. Will cost you around R200-R400 depending on how many open slots your motherboard has for RAM.

Lastly, maybe consider going 6870 or so and getting a cheap quadcore CPU to go with it?
Your motherboard will still be okay..

ANYTHING should be better than your current 9500GT.

Hey, the reason i want to get the GTX570 is because i am going to upgrade the rest of my PC later in the year still, but i just cant stand this damn graphics card anymore so that's why i want to replace it first. My PSU can support the 570 so there is no problem there. My only worry is that i will get the 570 and my current setup wont be able to support it. What exactly do you think will bottleneck the GPU?

Slow FSB (front-side-bus), slow Memory Controller, Slow/too little cache on CPU, Too little memory, slow Hard drive...


Basically, your about to put a Ferrari engine inside of a Uno.
The gearbox cant handle it.
The axles cant handle it.
The body cant handle it.
The steering column cant handle it.

Essentially... what I'm saying is:
Save your money and replace the whole thing in one shot.
By the time you get around to replace the rest of your system, then the graphics card might well be the piece of crap that could've been replaced with better/cheaper at that time.
 
Sorry for the late reply but what graphics card do you recommend for me? I really cant take this lag even when playing Black ops at low res on a 23" screen....
 
9500 GT shouldnt give you problems

My laptop has 9600m GT 1 gig and runs everything smooth and on ultra/high settings, maybe you got something else slowing down your PC?
 
Save the money is what I'd say too. Rather get yourself a decent mobo together with a CPU (and memory) that can handle everything. I've built three systems in the last year from scratch (i.e. buying and putting the components in place myself...thanks to family members that all expect me to be the "informed" one) and I have to say that the choice of components makes a big difference. Sure, it's not a clear-cut "this will get me the best bang for buck" decision but if you want a reliable system then you need to stick with the brand names (although I'm an Intel fanboy so ignore me if you're into ATi or whatever their chip acronyms are these days).

At the end of the day it's like everything else...take a shortcut on something then you better expect it to bite you in the @rse later on. Just holla and I'll share more of my "fanyboy" opinions with you.
 
I have similar spec to yours except I have the 8600gt it's decent and can go for another few years. I think buying a whole new computer when Ivy bridge chipset comes probably some time next year would be the best way to go. Then you can get Sandy Bridge for cheap.
