Hi

2 weeks ago I changed my telkom duo plus router for a netgear dgn2200 cos the wifi sucked.

Worked fine for 2 day. Now my connection keeps dropping on all my devices - laptop, ps3,iPads and phones. (All Connecting via wifi)

Is there a quick fix or is the router faulty?

My line stats if it helps in anyway ( I personally don't know what it all means so please advise?

Oh my line is synced at 2Mbps and my ISP is telkom

I have exactly the same problem. This is my second unit which is worse than the first one
I have tried all the versions of firmware.
Different channels. Etc
No change.

Yes, there is a fix... Get a better router ;) Try D-Link or TP-Link. I used to have the same issue, then I decided enough is enough.

If its the Telkom Branded Netgear DGN2200,they drop connection intermittently and there is no firmware to fix the issue.

Had one of those.Gave it back, got a refund and bought the proper Netgear DGN2200v3 from IC.
Only problem is that there is no PPPOE passthrough on them.

Get a TP-Link W8968 great little router absolutely rock solid.
They update the software every few months so far just to add new features such as 3G failover and improve the user interface of control panel.

Have used this router since October last year great value for money!

Many things can make WiFi stop working. Have you tried using a different WiFi channel?

Can you also report on your current WiFi settings. I suspect you might be having signal interference in such case you might want to lower your fragmentation and rts thresholds.

Maybe get them to swap it out for a dlink 2750u. Thats what they seem to be giving with the contracts for free nowadays.

I have one and its ok. Only issue I have is it doesnt seem to support airprint and the updated firmware doesn't fix that issue.

I also confirmed with dlink directly that you can only flash the telkom firmware to the telkom branded units.

Wi if channel was on 1 tried changing it to 7 and 9. It is now on auto, and still having the same problem

Also changed to mode from "up to 300Mbps" to "up to 145Mbps" which did not help

Security is set on WPA2-PSK (AES)

Hi There,
I would say the router is faulty. It may only be the Telkom Netgear version as indicated. I have used Netgear and had no issues with it but it was not a Telkom branded one.
The tp-Link is also a good choice. I have had no issues with it although the QoS is not as flexible as that on the DGN2200

Regards

Tim

Have to checked your WiFi advanced settings sections for the rts and fragmentation thresholds? In most cases I've seen, simply lowering these can have a huge effect on WiFi stability. Most modems have both these set rather high to enable faster WiFi, in my experience lowering both to 512 solves intermittent problems.

@ 3gee :This will probably be your best bet or if you can, rather try and reverse contract and purchase your own router.

@Shiraz : Take it back as soon as possible to get refund.

I went through about 3 of them and then just asked for a refund which they were happy to give

Thanks, will take it back tomorrow- or rather later today.
First prize would be a refund - if they don't want to do that since the router has been used for 2 weeks, then I will request they exchange for the DLink instead. Wish me luck

@3gee - router is normally given free if you signed a contract with telkom. Doubt they will refund that in any way.

Why is Telkom-branded stuff always inferior? Nothing they supply actually works as advertised! :(

Not so in my experience. I flashed mine with d-links firmware (AF_1.65_R01) and it's been rock solid for months.

Let me know if you find an improvement with the DLink

Got the dlink - installed it this afternoon and have been steaming netflix since then. working 100 % - never dropped once. Still with the standard telkom firmware....just going to leave it at that. Don't want to mess with flashing the firmware if its working fine

What difference would flashing the firmware offer?
