Is my router faulty?

Got the dlink - installed it this afternoon and have been steaming netflix since then. working 100 % - never dropped once. Still with the standard telkom firmware....just going to leave it at that. Don't want to mess with flashing the firmware if its working fine

What difference would flashing the firmware offer?

Imho, if its working, leave it be :)

Swopped out for the DLink this morning. Updated to the latest Telkom firmware. Early days to comment on the WIFI stabilty

Get a TP-Link W8968 great little router absolutely rock solid.
They update the software every few months so far just to add new features such as 3G failover and improve the user interface of control panel.

Have used this router since October last year great value for money!

+1

I must be the only one where my Telkom Netgear DGN2200 is working perfectly fine here :D

Come to think of it I have never had problems with the Telkom routers.

Hi There,
Generally I have had reliable products from Telkom while I was under a contract that included the modem. I remember they even replaced a modem in the 25th month of a 24 month contract with no questions asked. Telkom is not all cold and uncaring and 2nd rate products.

Regards

Tim

The DLink seems to be alot more stable than the Netgear router. Im very tempted to flash the latest DLink firmware ( unbranded )

The netgear worked fine for me on day 1 and 2 . Then I upgraded the firmware to activate hard drive sharing using the USB port. After that is when my problems started. Think it might just be on the telkom software offered by Hcom. Either u not using a telkom modem or u have not upgraded to the latest firmware me thinks

The Telkom call centre claims firmware v1.031 is suspect.
I found the latest version 1.041 worse
The think the problem is bad hardware

Never use the new firmware stick to v27 then you wont have problems :D

Get a Network Hardrive with a lan port or wireless if you want to share it or use a pc/laptop to share it.

Well, I actually had one of these, and they are horrible. these Netgears sucks, and really suck. Had my one server blow a NIC, and I couldn't understand why. After a month from replacing the Mobo, I killed another NIC, which made me think I'm to heavy on the servers. I decided to go D-Link, as I got sick of the Netgear Rebooting, and Resetting the whole time (Read: I had to actually redo all the settings). 6 months down the line, I'm smiling all the way. The D-Link drops, but not as often as the Netgear. Not touching Netgear routers ever again.

Could also have been just a coincedence unless you can prove it was the Netgear router scientifically and not power surgers or lightning.

I can make up tons of coincedences yet doesnt mean it caused the problem even look at crimes :D.

Actually, during storms I unplug everything (learned the hard way), so lightning is out of the question. Was only plugged into the netgear, as I tried to bypass the switch.

Was it an Original Netgear or the Telkom Branded Netgear.

If it was the Telkom Branded Netgear then you can't really blame Netgear, because Telkom does a custom Firmware and that is where the problem is at.

I am running a non branded Netgear bought from IC and have not switched it off or had to do a reset since I bought it about 2 months ago.
