I know it's a lousy question to ask but....
Is Netflix killing our internet?

In the past few weeks it is noticeable in the week between 4pm until about 9pm that internet performance can be real bad...

Is this peak 'Netflix & chill time' or am i imagining things?

Nope.

Many ISPs had IPC issues when Netflix went live.

But it's not just limited to ISPs. Many Telkom exchanges have also taken strain.

Of course it is Netflix....

I say we burn down their offices, then the Internet will be great again.

I know you're being sarcastic, but a couple ISPs have seen traffic increase considerably since Netflix went live.

I know they have...

I've seen the graphs, but its nowhere near enough of an increase to make the Internet performance be "real bad"....
 
Torrents have a bigger impact than Netflix. So no, Netflix isn't killing our internet, torrenting is (and always been) since you can't effectively cache a torrent stream due to the P2P nature.
 
i wonder if we will have netflix-shaped accounts. accounts that throttle streaming, until you buy a package thats favourable to streaming.

Think you'll find torrenting has less impact on prime time as most of us eyepatch guys now schedule them between 00:00 and 06:00.

Besides which we don't want our torrents to interfere with the NetFlix/ShowMax GB's we're now chewing through during prime time :D

The ISP's and co knew netflix,ect were coming. If we are suffering its because they along with telkom and co didn't prepare for it.

Personally haven't noticed anything on my crystalweb account, some of my other accounts are slower thought...

Using Uncapped Afrihost 10Mbps ADSL & Telkom Uncapped LTE broadband

The ADSL drops to 1Mbps with >1000 ping.
Telkom LTE drops from >50Mbps to 2Mbps with >400 ping.

That sounds like a local backhaul congestion issue...

You will probably find that your LTE and ADSL connect to the same exchange backhaul relatively nearby and that is congested.
