Is News Server - bad msg id's

I'm buying another 320 GIG HDD soon ... and a bigger case for my increasing HDD collection :p

dualmeister - id rather get a 500gb. They coming down nicely in price. Cost u like R2500 or so. You could however get 2 x 320gb for less than R2500 but thats up to u and up to ur space constraints...

Hehe I'm not the type to upgrade cases and stuff, started off with 2x250GB external HD's (only use the internal 120GB HD to run the OS and install stuff on) which rest on top of my case. Plus they look snazzy in their metallic cases :D Waiting for 500GB externals to come out before I buy more. Have space on top of the case for about 5 more :) Benefit of external HD's is that you're only limited by the number of USB ports, which is a minor problem because there are USB splitters available.

Best value for money per GB right now ;)

Hitachi SATA II - 250 GIG
Seagate SATA II - 320 GIG

Waiting for 500GB externals to come out before I buy more.

You can get the Seagate 500 GIG now for about R2800 retail, but that's USB. Wait for the eSATA ones

Damn, I thought it would be cool to get another 320GB along with my current 160GB + 60GB + 320GB but looks like there really are abusers among us :p

JUST JOKING!

Honestly if you pay for what you use you should be able to use it AT MAXIMUM SPEEDS!!! (IS Please read the Maximum speed part...)

Anyhow you should also look at Western Digital, Cyberdyne have them for pretty cheap and they are rated coolest(as in not much heat ;) ) and most silent running drives by Tomshardware. Bought myself one recently (320GB sata300GB/s 8mb cache) for just over 1k. Defenitely worth it!

I prefer the external firewire enclosures - slower on paper than USB2 but faster in reality.

hmmm
NAS device ;)

Intel has a relatively cheap one, takes 4x sata drives

OR better, just build your own, cheapie case with lots of bays for drives, + motherboard with gigabit lan + cheap processor/memory

If the news-servers doesn't pick up before the 10'th of next month I am cancelling my account with Openweb. IS international is inferior to SAIX. The network is down every second week and now I can't even use my local traffic the way I want to(ie. News-server)! It seems to me these problems just started out of the blue(one day it was working the next it's completely screwed), almost like they are limiting the network to try and screw us Telkom style.

And MR Beep the new *beta* news-server(which Openweb is testing) has great speeds, that is until you download for more than a hour or so after which SABnzbd(News grabber) reports: "Could not initialize connection". Then mysteriously 12-24hr's later it works 100% again for about an hour. I have talked to NUMERIOUS people who can confirm it. Its like clockwork almost as if it were setup to refuse connections to certain IP's after X amount of time or X amount of MBs. Oh and to confirm this I reset my router to obtain a new IP. Geuss what happens? Hmmm gee the news server works once more...

The ONLY way IS will be able to keep some of its user base after the new ADSL regulations that require Uncapped Local is by having something SAIX does not. That something is the news-server, but if it keeps up like this they can kiss all their new ADSL users goodbye.

Get a SAIX based account and never have to worry about the weather again :p
