IS News Server down?

Eish, i think the news server has got a bit too popular thanks to this thread....speeds are sitting at 40K max now :/
 
I'm still enjoying my international - went 2GB over my international cap and it's still moving along :D
 
OK the ONLY question bothering me is why grabit works fine but newsleecher and newsbin don't. Can some clued up smarta$$ (eg ziglet ;)) please answer that and put my mind at ease. Cos it doesn;t make sense that the problem is with the IS server if grabit works ok.

Well i know newsbin doesnt work now because of limit on 4concurrent connections. So when newsbin has grabbed an article it tries to reconnect but because it takes a while for the news server to reset 1 of your "slots", newsbin seems to think the server has gone wonky / that it is still connected and thus downloads "air" ;)

Newsleecher does work, but i think when the IS server does give the "remote server down" the program just thinks every article is bad and whizzes through your queue saying everything is missing... :/

The new newsbin 5.31 supposedly has a fix for this but only registered users can download the "pre-release/beta"...

So anyone had any luck with 5.31?
 
Is it working for you guys now? I normally connect pppoe through my router, but I put it in bridge and made a manual connection, downloading @ 33KB/s from both servers using 4 connections on newsleecher ;)
 
What the hell. Speeds just went from about 30K/s to 130K/s. Whoever just disconnected, please say disconnected :D

DUH ... back to 35 K/s :(
 
news.is.co.za vs news.isdsl.net - any difference?
 
Well the news servers seem to be working good this month, this is how is used to be. This is going to be my last post in this thread because I don't want to play a part in promoting it and therefore degrading the service again. If people want to know about the news servers, they can search for it - every possible question has been answered 10x over ;)

Fight club rules 10 000 views ago would have helped....now.... i wont be surprised if speeds degrade even worse than the current 30K :( when i was using newshosting.com back in the 30gig int days, nooo problems. Found out about the IS News server completely by accident just trying all the local isps for news servers and i knew this would happen if word got out.
 
You guys are really strange, I don't think people in first world countries worry about the whole country using one service, LOL. Let the whole of South Africa use the news server, it will only get better that way ;) If more people come aboard it gives IS insentive to keep things running smooth and better than before, it decreases overall cost of access and it makes everyone happy.

Or . . . more people on the service will justify IS shutting it down or nobbling it like all the others. They dont seem to advertise the service which indicates to me it's not too high on their list of priorities.
