IS news server down?

Keep talking about it. Then don't complain when you can't access it.

It's been said many times before, there is a forum dedicated to these discussions. Bringing attention to the thing on a large forum such as this attracts thousands of noobs to sign up, reducing speeds for existing users.

Speeds cant be slower than they r at the mo...
And as mentioned before.. every1 was once a n00b.

Anyway... doubt n00b's would pay attention to these threads unless they knew wat the news server was already.
Most n00b's r told by friends about the news server.... (i know thats how i learnt about it.....)
and btw... i find these forums useful as they r alot easier to read and browse than the newshost forum....
hence posting here is useful... especially when there problems with the servers.

Im not complaining, im merely asking and these so called existing users you talking about were once noobs themselves.

The IS news server is also part and parcel of signing up with IS so talking about it is just informing them of a service they basically paying for.

@TheStudent: Everyone was once a noob, but some noobs are willing to search around and learn on their own, and some are lazy ass twats who expect everything to be handed to them.

"how do i use the news servers?" "what's a news reader?" "how do i configure a news reader?" etc etc

Even if there are problems, how does posting here help to resolve any issues? Would IS magically detect that there's a thread on MyADSL about it and then get it fixed immediately?

The previous thread about news server problems that was locked that had a few thousand replies evidently caused more harm than good by the amount of attention it attracted. Can we please just put this issue to rest? If you have a problem then you have a problem, it's one of those things - check again in the morning. We all experience problems, no single person's problem is unique so wtf is the point posting everytime you experience a problem always to be told by someone else that they are also experiencing it?

You are paying for local data, nowhere does IS state that they are selling you access to their news server. If you bought an account purely because of the news server then that's your personal choice. IS does not advertise it, and their core business does not revolve around a few leechers. Whether or not ADSL users cancel their account will barely make a dent in their profit margins, therefore they couldn't care if the server breaks. We have to take it upon ourselves to ensure that it doesn't. That is the point that people are trying to make when they say stop talking about it. Anyway this issue has been discussed to death before, if you have any questions then search for it.

In case you guys didn't know it, the first rule of usenet is don't talk about usenet. Google it and you'll see that it's not unique to us. That rule is there for a reason.

No offence dude but that article isn't exactly accurate. I certainly don't think of myself as leet, but I think the point is attracting unnecessary attention is never a good thing.

Sure you have a good point when I was thinking about the 'extra' gigs I use to get on IS local only. These days I can't get anymore than my paid for allocation. My point being IS stopped being generous (to me) either because people talked too, I abused too much, or perhaps for some other business reason.
I'm not complaining, its just a reflection on how things were only a few months ago.

And I see that posts are made about how much you're getting over your allocated package, that must do more harm than good if these ISPs are having a good read of this forum. With time hopefully will come more choice and less big boys to push us around into restrictions and high prices, and then there will be no more need to talk about any of this....and pigs might fly.
