does anyone know if the IS news server is still available (via CISP) ? I can't seem to connect to it lately. Thanks

Yeah still available.

I just had some "news articles" to read this morning.

Thanks. For some reason I get connection refused on port 119. Is there another port I can use ?

You need a pilot's license to use news servers, used them for a while then got tired of take downs (failed downloads), or just never seemed to work after a while.

Sure is...well, news servers...not the IS one of course.

I use paid ones daily.

All you really need is a decent paid for indexer, news server and you can't go wrong.

You used to need an astronaut's license to administer and maintain them too, news servers used to be very temperamental, needed lots of loving care and attention from a dedicated, committed and highly skilled BOFH. In other words, no ANC cadres.
I am not sure how they have evolved, maybe they have, but maybe not

What's the monthly rate for a good one?
Around US$ 14....then you usually get unlimited downloads, but have to pay the year up front.

I use the top one on this list:
