Is Openweb any good?

Where do people even hear about OpenWeb?

I only know they exist because of the constant hatred I see here.

Facebook advertising! The ads popped up every now and then, after hiding so many of them Facebook stopped putting them in my timeline.

OP, OW's capped accounts are OK because they're an Internet Solutions reseller. But you can do a lot better. Afrihost, Axxess, RSAWeb, WebAfrica, and Crystal Web are all better options with better customer support.

I've currently got Mweb 10 mb uncapped, were paying R999 a month for that. No problems with mweb but i thought i'd look at other ISP prices and i saw Openweb has uncapped plus 10mb for R549 per month which prioritizes gaming and streaming which is exactly what i want.

Just wondering if there's any other openweb users is it a good isp choice?

STAY. FAR. AWAY.

Used them as my first ADSL isp ever. Literally not 2 weeks went by where I didn't have to mail them to fix my account.
Currently using MWEB uncapped and so far I'm really happy with their performance (haven't reached their AUP limit yet).

ok so so now im looking at axxess they don't really describe their packages very well is the premium uncapped shaped or not price seems too good to be unshaped

No such thing as unshaped uncapped. Go for a high cap capped account. I can recommend VOX with 50000%.

Just going by what I've read on MyBB, as I've not been a customer of them...
Short answer: No.
Long answer: HELL no!

I'd say find an ISP that works for your needs. Everyone raved about Afrihost but every time I tried them it's been rubbish.

I've had good experiences with Web Africa and I'm currently with Vox which has been excellent. I've also given up on uncapped accounts a long time ago and prefer high capped accounts.

Can't say much for OpenWeb these days, used them ages ago and personally didn't have performance issues but just too much drama and they're no longer active on the forum so I moved. CrystalWeb is another that seems to be always be surrounded by some sort of drama on the forum so I prefer to stay with companies that have the least amount of drama surrounding them :D

Where have you been on the forum that I haven't? As a long time consumer of their products, I've been on their feedback thread more than most on here, and the biggest dramas have been regarding the portal not being as snazzy as say AH, or about the DDOS attacks on Fibre, which is on Vumatel's side anyway, and should get sorted in time.

ADSL and performance has seen a very low number of complaints - slim to none, compared to other ISPs.

I think he means forum drama.

going to OW is like going to cell C, sure some people wont have problems and say they are the best, but majority of the users on the network wil have non stop issues.

Crystal Web, Vox, and apparently Afrihost now that they are buying themselves back form MTN are the only decent options. but do not be afraid to chop and change between them.

I was on web Africa for a long time, but they are just average, I was much happier with Vox.

but please OP, for all that is good in this world, do not go to openweb, you will be posting here complaing about what happened to you soon. just like all the threads posted on page one of this thread already...

I still have an OW uncapped account that I use for downloads and I pull about 200gb on it a month atm, but I am one of the very few lucky ones. I use a capped account in the evenings for streaming, etc. Rather stay far, faaar away. I'm waiting to see if CW keeps up with their 00:00-18:00 free data thing and then I'll cancel and move to them.

Even if you're one of the lucky ones who gets a good account from OW, you still have to deal with their useless and rude support, not to mention the stinking attitude of their CEO.

^^ This

Good advise.

In my experience, and ranking them as per a popular card game:

President
Crystal Web (solid uncapped option based on forum feedback, though I've never used them)
Vox Telecom (solid capped option and my current ISP of choice, but does seem a bit hit and miss depending on region)

Vice-President
Axxess (based on forum feedback, though I've never used them)

Neutral
Cybersmart (never had dealings with and never followed their forum feedback, so no opinion either way)

Vice-Scum
Afrihost (dishonesty regarding network issues a while back, and more recent spam mails)
Telkom Internet (it's Telkom... what do you expect?)
MWEB (overpriced and underdelivery)

Scum
Openweb (basically a scam operation)
Webafrica (terrible quality of products, terrible service from support and billing, onerous cancellation procedure)

As an ex Vox customer (2 years ago), I would drop them one notch just for the random premature capping of their accounts (after the 3rd time it happening to me, I cancelled, along with the bolt-on which I had with my fat pipe), with no fix in sight (as I still see reports of this), but the rest I can concur with.

Yoh, didn't know WebAfrica ranked that far down. They've always been bad, but are they really on par with OpenWeb now?

Isn't Axxess and Afrihost the same network, and essentially the same company?
Thank goodness no.

AH owns Axxess but the Axxess network is a lot more stable.

I recently picked up a few new clients who are all signed up with AH = all had a history of internet problems with current issues reported in the AH thread a daily occurance.

Nonenof my Axxess clients have anywhere near the same ammount and consistent issues.

Needless to say the AH clients are all scheduled to tranfer services to other providers asap.
