IS/Openweb just went dead. Cant even ping the network....

Telkom Internet is stillworking fine.

Centurion/PTA

secure pages don't seem to work for me but everything else seems fine but I am on an openbrowse account, could just be the proxy...

non-SA Academic sites not working?

SAIX ADSL - Cape Town , can get UCT, Stellenbosch, but Stanford USa, Toronto Canada, Oxford UK don't load. I can't trace, ping to them.
Same via SAIX and MWeb dialup.

Suspecting a DNS issue, I asked a friend in the UK to test the same sites, and they work fine. He was online with someone in Zimbabwe, and they could access the sites fine as well.

I asked him to send me the IP for Stanford University, but I still could not ping or browse to it. On my 5th tracert attempt, I got the following:

Hey Wolfling,

I have investigated, but everything seems to be up on our side, and on IS side. If you are experiencing any further problems, kindly email: [email protected] or [email protected]

martmeister: Re: Secure Pages via OpenBrowse.

Please ensure you have the following server setup up in the "Secure" / "SSL" box in your browser: socks.opendns.co.za Port 80

From the Great Karoo, kind regards,
MrBEEP

Dead is an understatement

I officially hate IS, ive been using SAIX for the last week and am now capped so changed to my IS account, well during the day it is terrible, ive never had such lag while browsing / disconnections. My MSN spends more time reconnecting that actually just being connected. And so much for fast local speeds, the news server speeds cant stay constant for more than a few seconds.I know we all complain about SAIX but from what ive experienced, they still kick IS's a$$!

I officially LOVE IS. I always experience great speeds. My news server downloads rock, and its free, and I NEVER get cut off from the net!! I have openbrowse, which means I can still check surf overseas sites and stuff after cap. What more do you want? Love it!!

cableguy...stuff you. You are probably the only one. How much does IS pay you to say nice things about them? Huh? :-P

Wolfling...I'm also in Centurion/PTA and experiencing terrible international speeds on IS.

Local speeds SUCK

damn im not even trying international, my local speeds are crap enough. SAIX u just got a new customer

speed tests

IS speeds, on dsl384 line:

sentech speed test 1mb file
Your download speed is: 12.71 KBps, or 101.67 Kbps
The test took 80.578 seconds to complete

telkom speed test
Your line speed is approximately 62.8 Kbps or 7.7 kBytes/sec

Gamco Your current bandwidth reading is:
155.80kbps
which means you can download at 19.48 KB/sec. from our servers

wtf is up with IS!! been like this for 2 days now, even local has terrible lag and painfully slow. have to wait like 20 seconds after refreshing this forum alone before it refreshes. whats the point having 30gigs local when the speeds are worse than dial-up
