Is Parklands a good area?

I am moving from Bryanston to Cape Town and I'm having a hard time figuring areas out and I have seen some decently priced places in Parkland but everyone I've spoken to has said that they wouldn't move into the area. I've also read on a thread here from 2014 that it is pretty high density and that there is kind of a "good side" and a "less good side" - I was wondering if anyone could help me work all this out! The place I have my eye on is just off Chesterfield way.

This is not meant to stir any drama, I just don't know anyone who will give me an honest answer and I need to pick an area and am in search of an actual answer :)

I stay in Parklands and my only advice is try get a place as far away from the main road as possible. It's very busy at the best of times. Also, be prepared to sit in traffic in the morning if you have to drive anywhere for work. But if you can get a place somewhere in the suburb itself, it's nice.
 
A friend of mine lives near there, it’s not a bad area. The houses are nice and big.

I’d rather rent for a year or so before you buy if you’re not sure about areas.
And check google maps/ traffic for your work route.

Thank you so much for your advice, it's really helpful! So would that mean that the road above is considered in the suburb itself? (Chesterfeild way) Kind of Sunningdale side

Thanks, that's great advice, so I am renting and would be renting an apartment, they seem to be the most reasonably priced around and I run my own business so I can't take out huge rentals on apartments rn as risk is too high. The same apartment I'm getting in JHB is completely unafforable in CT, it's crazy.

That seems to be the common consensus I've come across, too. But I do know people who stay in Blouberg and they say it's ok but you've got to be on the "right side", wherever that is :')

You should be good to go with a place there (if I just check where it is on Google Maps). It's well clear of the main road (aka Little Nigeria).

The right/nicer side in my view would be the area west of Wood drive towards Sunningdale, Parklands North, Blouberg and the West beach area. The eastern side has more higher density housing and safety might be an issue as you get closer to the Dunoon township area / N7. The area bordering Blouberg international school is nice in terms of standalone properties. I guess an apartment experience would largely depend on how noisy your neighbors are. Definitely avoid Parklands Main Road as others have suggested.

With regards to morning traffic, there is alot of congestion along Sandown road towards the N7 and along the R27 heading to the CBD. Personally I would try and stay as close as possible to your place of employment/business. It makes little sense to save money on a place to stay, only to then spend it on fuel to get to and from work.

Btw, power is supplied directly from Eskom Direct. There are other areas in Cape Town which buys electricity from the municipality and thus have reduced loadshedding levels.

Morning traffic would only be a problem if I need to meet clients for now as I work from home (I run a digital marketing company) but appreciate your mentioning it because it's a factor I hadn't considered.

You also anticipated my next question with Eskom, thanks for that info :)
 
Just be careful where you move to in terms of where and when you will need to drive because some areas have hectic traffic at peak times.

Not "posh" enough, grew up in the east rand of jozi... I think I'll harsh their vibe :ROFL: but good to know that's where one goes if one happens to be posh!
 
This might be considered racist by the snowflakes but Parklands is colloquially known as Darklands now.
