Is prepaid LTE a unicorn?

In light of the spate of DDOS attacks, I'm looking for an ad hoc backup that allows us to continue working from home. Being able to video conference is crucial. The best option seems to be a prepaid LTE option.

I can't seem to find any local ISP's offering this. Is this a unicorn amongst the wireless options?

Cell-C have prepaid data bundles that only expire after 365 days.
Sizes range from 3GB to 200GB (R299 to R1999).

Telkom 61 day prepaid bundles are probably the cheapest option. You can halve the bundle and use it over 2 months at a reduced cost. The night surfer data does not extend for the second month but not many people are video conferencing at this time!

Otherwise you could look at a cheap 30+30GB Afrihost/MTN Pure LTE month to month contract for R199.

Telkom also has Mo'Nice offers if you dial *123#. My offers are not too good at the moment but for small amounts of prepaid data (1~5GB) that might be your cheapest option. Currently my offers are around R16 per gigabyte. You should be able to buy multiple units of the best offer to satisfy your requirements. The offers vary from SIM to SIM - a newly RICA'd SIM card might have better deals.

So I bought a TP-Link MR7200 LTE router and a prepaid LTE sim, then topped it up with 5Gb for R99. Whilst the coverage map shows we're covered up to LTE-A, with speeds up to 200Mbps, I could only hit 3Mbps on a speed-tests. How disappointing.
