Is Renault really so bad?

I've owned two Renaults - great while in warranty - cry in your porridge once out of warranty.

Get a Getz, or if you can find one, a Fiat Panda

Renault is great for the first 90 000KM or even less. 2001 Clio with 140k on the clock, stay away.

Do not touch a French car... The only vehicle I know where you have to take off the manifolds to repair the starter motor.

I've seen some Toyota's, where the alternator- don't know about the starter, is under the intake manifold too ! Very nice spot to work in .. LOL !!

Wife has a 1.2 2003 with about 140k. Has a few issues and services generally end up being 5-8k. Parts very costly.

That's just crazy... 28sec for one car vs 30min for the other...

Moral of the story - also check out the engine bay and headlights/tail lights regarding part replacement... You don't want to get stuck in the boondocks with a car nobody can help you with, do you?

Renault is not too bad. I had a Few Kangoo panel vans for a business I was involved with, one of them had 300k on the clock and was still like new.

Service at the agent is too expensive, rather use an indie.

It's working for now. Still cheaper than buying a new car at 5k+ every month. When it keels over it will get replaced. It's not worth anything as a trade in etc.

Just wanted to make sure the guys who follow the renault/french car threads give me some feedback. Not everyone monitors the new posts on the forum.
