If I split my traffic, local/int either at router/linux fwall/routesentry level and I make local accounts IS and international account (which I use for email) SAIX, will my IS account be able to authenticate with the saix mail servers or will that be an issue?

Thanks
J

You will be able to log into any mail account to check emails, the problem comes in when you want to send emails. SAIX does not allow you use their SMTP server from an IS account, and vice versa. Unless you want to send large emails regularly, it's not a problem letting all your emails go out on your international account.

It is however a problem when I dont wish to have to stop the local acc running when I want to send an email :(((

How are you splitting the traffic? Just add the SAIX mailserver IP to the international ranges you've got set. Otherwise you could try using the IS SMTP server.

Why do people like making things complicated when simple solutions exist?

Doh :o

Yes, that is the simpler solution, and I can kick myself cause I use it that way on my Linksys when splitting traffic. Memory must be going...

EDIT: didn't realise it at first since I've been doing the other way around the last few months, i.e. IS international and SAIX local. In this case SAIX local don't allow you access to the SAIX SMTP servers, so you have to send out emails over the international account.

So I can use the IS smtp no probs to send mail from saix account?

If you mean you are using a SAIX account, i.e. the SAIX account details are in your modem, then no, you can't use the IS SMTP.

If you mean your email is hosted by an ISP that gave you a SAIX account, but you are logging onto the internet with your IS account, then yes, you can use the IS SMTP.

What i did to remedy a similar situation ( I have multiple people using my connection, saix and IS based accounts for mail) is I used one of my website's /webhosting account's email servers settings, so I used an external smtp server, it uses authentication which I setup on the firewall, all mail gets routed to the firewall (192.168.0.1) it catches all the mail and and from there the mail server pushes all mail to the smtp, and from there into the world..
