IS Shaping traffic/ Network Problems

we know IS shapes during day.......but yesterday there were shaping during the night :(

This is true...

Daytime speeds are always bad and we have learned to accept that.

What they are doing at the moment, which is shaping ALL the time, with no idea when it will end or improve is unacceptable.

the only thing that is working fine for me is the news server....thats a start

I don't even bother with that any more with all the problems.

And now my dstv has gone down as well :(

That's why they call it a "best effort" service.

That is such BS - what kind of company offers a "best effort" service? Could you imagine if other companies tried the same? SAA for example - we will charge you R 8 000.00 for a flight to London and we will make our "best effort" to get you there... If it would not be accepted from any other business, why do we accept it from Telkom? The problem (as usual), in South Africa, is that we (the consumers) do not stand together and do not bitch about poor quality and bad service enough. We need to make more noise and make if felt - see my previous post.

Playing devils advocate for the sake of debate here, but adsl is a best effort service (im not saying that what has happened here is acceptable, especially after nearly a week)

When you fly SAA to london for R8000, i think compare it more to a diginet connection, where you have a better avenue to take your complaints

Leno, I am not referring to this specific and latest problem, but rather Telkom's general service and pricing and even more importantly, it's complete and utter indifference to its customer’s complaints/requests. If Telkom had a couple of competitors in the same market, they would be dead in a couple of months. I know that, you know that and Telkom know that. More importantly, the government knows that (And who is the biggest share holder in Telkom?). This is why Neotel's launch (to the end-user/home-consumer) has been delayed yet again. Thanks ICASA.

and Telkom will benefit again

Correct me if I am wrong here but should IS not fully resolve this issue (which hopefully will not be the case) most of us will go and get Saix based accounts to get back to the speeds we were on and as usual, the main benefactor of this will be..........you guessed it.........not even gonna say the Gawd awful name.

So please, IS, for the love of money and all things fluffy, dont make us pay them more than we already are.

Well SAA might offer a Best Effort Service but British Airways offer a "Well Loose your Baggage" Service.

I flew to london in December and guess what. They lost my bags. And guess what till today they havent found it. In all honesty i'd stick with best effort any day :)

As for this whole IS network nonsense. No matter how much we scream, shout or blame IS and the their 3rd party resellers, nothing is going to happen. The root of the problem lies within Telkom which lies wit DoC which lies with ICASA. And now ICASA has held back Neotel's broadband service launch due to plain stupidity.

I have grown more frustrated over the years with our dismal state of telecoms. And if it were not for websites like this I would have shot a Telkom employee a long time ago. All of us are in the same blerry boat here. And we all are highly frustrated with all this fcuking nonsense. I dont want to say "We should to this, and stand up for our rights, and go marching etc...." coz GVT and the people in Power really dont give a $hit.

I am seriously considering counseling over all these telecoms issues. I slapped a random guy at the BP Filling station coz he said he applauds the work of the DoC and Telkoms re-assurance to the public?

Its been 3 years since this whole "Telecoms Liberisation" process started. In hindsight the only solution is if GVT give up their control and sell all their vested interests in the Industry.....

Other then that.... Bill Gates could invent a program that would compress 1GB into 1KB and GVT would still charge per KB. Its not the technology its the people!!!!

ok my bad :)

Is has always been shaped in the day, but not to the extent where it goes at abt +- 2K.. like half speed maybe, and its been shaped after hours for the past week :) gotta love it, atleast i have a working news server again.

im getting a speed of round bout 20KB from IS news server running 6threads (3 from news.is.co.za and 3 from news.isdsl.net). On a 384 line..

It use to be round 40KB at this time of day, so seems the speed has been capped

Everything seems to be slow here..... torrents going at a whopping 2.6 kB/s!!! MrBeep - phone IS now and order them to fix it immediately!!!

And what are the chances of IS doing anything by way of an apology or compensation. Slim to none I would suggest.

13-16KB/s down on news server (5 threads).

10-15KB/s down and 2-3KB/s up on torrents (9 torrents) Would normally get 60-80KB/s down and 30-40KB/s up.

Rubbish for a 4MB/s line.
