Is skype available on local?

Okay I have just seen a strange thing, i switched off my international internet and then skype went offline then back online is skype now available locally?

or is it just skype not being lekker?

Usually with IS you get a trickle of international. I notice my DYNDNS will still work on IS when it doesnt with SAIX.

It probably need international to negotiate the initial connection. The actual comms between the parties is direct.

True, but usually the trickle is too little for Skype to stay authenticated, like this morning, for instance Last night it worked properly.

Just connected on my Capped Telkom account, and it works perfectly... I even spoke to one of my friends in US, using my local account..
So it works on my SAIX

Skype is essentially P2P when it comes to its login/authentication. It has a record (shared.xml) of all known working supernodes (peers) which it uses when connecting. A supernode is essentially any unfirewalled PC that has been running Skype for a significant period and is considered worthy to act as a peer.
Skype collects a list of these supernodes and sometimes if you're lucky it'll find and add to that list a local supernode, and then when you're capped you wont have a problem logging in. Unfortunately that doesn't happen very often, and editing the shared.xml file is a mission not suited to the average PC user, and you'd still need a working local supernode IP+port to put in there anyway.
The only really reliable way of bypassing this shortcoming is to use a proxy which you can enable in skype preferences. OpenWeb's Openbrowse works flawlessly with skype, so that's one option...
