Well, we have been running a 4mb line on IS and as of today I am getting 20kb/s download speed. We have been toying with the idea of moving to MWEB uncapped/unshaped for some time and I think that the time has now come.

They offer to packages for uncapped and unshaped.

Internet Addict
- No fixed IP
- Higher contention ratios
- Month to month
- No CISCO router

Business
- Fixed IP - We use DYNDNS
- Lower conntention ratios
- 12 month contract - not keen to sign any contracts at this stage
- CISCO router - I have my own
- R1500 setup fee.

So, as far as I can see the concerning thing is the contention ratios.
Is there a big difference between the two packages regarding contention ratios.

Oh, BTW, I asked the MWEB sales person what their fair usage policy is and she didn't know what I was talking about - I asked if they throttle after a certain stage and she said no.

Anyway, your thoughts on the above.

The addict package uses the same backbone with the same contention ratios as the Business package AFAIK.

There are people on this forum though that are on the addict package and performance hasn't been that great.

I'd say try spend a bit more and look at the openweb GOLD unshaped or the vodacom business accounts here:

Our small office is on a 384K connection. We moved from Telkom to Mweb uncapped, without a huge difference in performance. We do mostly work "local" though, with our servers at Hetzner.

Seacom (International) might be down, so check local before moving to Mweb...

Man, can't we just for ONE WEEK have reliable Internet!

IS sucks - I'm off to MWEB; MWEB sucks - I'm off to WebAfrica or Vodacom...

MWEB Business is an IS product…
