Recent events seem to suggest the ANC has had it's share of the pie (or its ride on the gravy train, however you want to refer to it), unfortunately it could mean taking the country down with it.

Discuss.

An ANC split would be great. A one party democracy is not a democracy.

Yes but see what it is doing to the economy. How much longer can the SA economy take local shocks like this. Likely that Rand dropped down to a level now it won't easily recover from. And that had nothing to do with the Dollar, even!

Let's just hope that the split will result in a very strong opposition party and not a party that will end up like the UDM, ID, etc, I don't consider those parties as strong opposition parties. Taking into account that the ANC will win next year's election, I really hope that they WILL NOT win with a two thirds majority.

Those are mickey mouse parties. The only party that will defeat ANC is ANC itself.

Don't count out the DA. They have 13% of the votes. IF the ANC splits, then the new party might want to consider to ally themselves with the DA.

DA would control the swing vote, from zero to hero in no time at all.

Nah. That won't happen. Not if Mbeki can help it.

Now is the time for opposition parties like the DA to kick in and fight, while the ANC is at its weakest. They need to make themselves known to the smallest voter in the smallest pondokkie in the middle of nowhere, to the big shot fat cats in the big cities. Now is the time!! Full steam against the ANC while they are on their knees!!

Just imagine SA becomes like any other 1st world country, what a great place it can be!!!

The sad, sad truth is, that most of the ANC voters have no idea WTF is going on. Hell, I doubt they even know there is something going on!!

Wishful thinking Skinner. By now you should realise this place will NEVER be a 1st world country. You can long for the "good old days" as much as you'd like, it's just not going to happen. This is Africa.

I know and have heard of a lot of people who have lost faith in the ANC and they say there's no other party to vote for and so therefore they won't vote at all. My brother for example has lost faith in the ANC and says he won't vote at all. I think that the DA or ID, etc should somehow do a campaign and let people know that they MUST vote for another party if not the ANC.

Under normal situations, yes, there is little hope for SA.
But now, the ANC is weak, there is division amongst its upper ranks and actions are resulting as an effect. Now is the time for opposition parties to kick in. I would expect they could start by making a strong-worded media statement, criticizing the current f-up, calling on all South Africans to join the fight against the ANC. This I expect within the next 24h. Then, as part of a longer-term campaign, they should start a massive project to find and reach out to each South African possible, even the ones in the remote corners of the country, and educate them about (1) the current situation with the ANC and the f'ed-up country and (2) the benefits of voting for a new(?), stronger opposition party. And BAM! You have a new party at the lead of the country by 2010. Then one thing after the other follows... all problems addressed... and by 2015 our children can play safely outside, we can all take public transport to work and all problems sorted out - just like a 1st world country. Sounds like a dream yes but NOW is the time to act and it can become reality!!!

Exactly, as I suggested in my previous post!

Any good opposition party should ACT NOW! The ANC is on its knees now!!
