Seems I've been transferred to Port Elizabeth

Anybody have some info on what the ADSL installation times and line stability levels are down there ? Do Telkom have a guy with a forked stick that carries the data packets to PE ? ;)

Seeing as some SA airlines don't even fly there, I'm getting a bit nervous....

My line is stable, installation was 13 months before they said I would get it and SAA flies here.

ADSL in Eastern Cape

Nope, just like the rest of South Africa at the moment. But we used to have and
was stable for years.

Took about 3 months to get our line installed, that was a while ago though. On 4mbit and haven't had any problems since it was put in, aside from the usual ones everyone experiences thanks to Telkom. :)

PE should be fine! Im in tiny East London and I 430k/sec :D you will survive in PE ;)

I live in PE. The staff at the two Telkom customer care outlets that I frequent are very friendly and helpful. When I had my ADSL installed, the technician also went out of his way to assist.

Problem now is that the Internet is so damn slow. I upgraded from 192 to 512 (applied on Wednesday, apparently it was done this morning), but my download rate is just laughable. It seems that it's not only a local problem and that everybody in SA is experiencing the same problem. Why then bother with unlimited internet if you can hardly download anything?

BTW, great forum.

Glad it is not just me in PE that is having this problem. My 1024 up to 39k dial up is even slower than this.

My 4 meg line's ok here but not great, better than it was a couple of days ago at least.

I got my line in 3weeks...

N 3 of my friends that got dsl got it within a month.. This was not so long ago..

Best thing to do is to go visit the telkom shop at walmer park..

The Walker Drive shop staff are also very helpful.
