Is there really a difference between 720 and 1080?

I used both 720p and 1080 and honestly don't see the difference in viewing quality.

So what is the difference between these 2 that make people pass for 720p from services like ShowMax and choose 1080 from Netflix?

You will only see a difference on a big screen TV.

It also depends on how compressed the source is. If you compare a 1.5 GB 720p movie with a 2.5 GB 1080p you'll see a bigger difference than less compressed sources of 720p and 1080p. The size of the screen you're watching it on is also important.

720p on 1080p screen = stretching

1080p on 1080p screen = no scaling/stretching.

View a 10gb 1080p movie file and you'll immediately see the difference

Good question, I have two tv's. One 720p 42" Plasma and the other a 1080 32" LCD. Though some stuff might look awesome in full HD, I really don't gives a rats ass.
