Is this a good idea?

I think at the end of the day you have to ask yourself if you can afford to have it break. (new turbo = 25k so keep that in mind).
If you're in that car and you're driving it you will love it. I wouldn't worry too much about the turbo as they seem fine on the 1.8T, the 1.9TDI owners are the ones that have to be careful. At the end of the day if you take that car at 115k and spend 50k on new turbos it will still be way better than something like an I20.
Also, with any Seat, I wouldn't buy one unless you plan on keeping it for a while.

Whats the book on the 1.8.If you do manage to sell it rather get an S3 or something with bit more positives.

THe thing is i dont want anything else other then a SEAT.

Im planning on keeping the Cupra, till it stops moving.

THe book value im unsure of, when SEAT SA were selling it = R 195,000.

Book on the 1.8T is at least more than 115k, I'd guess at around 140/150k.

Wow, its an awesome deal then.

If you have toyed with this idea then "die koel is deur die kerk klok, ou maat"....

don't waste your time...just go get the car you want, NOW....

(the better idea would be to purculate on this idea of yours until it starts to stink....really, bro, don't do it, but seeing that the resale is soo poor, then what the hell....enjoy, bro, enjoy while you can...)

I know....we've been bubbling on a C30 T5 for quite a while now.....old model...facelifted...old model...face lifted...R200k with 40k km on the clock...R340k brand new.....yes, no, yes, no, yes, no....(we don't give a stuff about resale...so what..a car has NEVER been an investment, lest its a Ferrari/Lambo/or some exotic)

it gets too confusing/frustrating.....but this is a truth...if you walk to your car....or work and can't wait to take the next drive....then by all means....get the car....if you are lingering on good financial choice....then don't...!

what I'm saying.....let your cash bring you the most satisfaction.....looks like you'll lose on your current car in any event....so why not get the one that will in evitably give you an much, much bigger grin...

Now that makes a whole lot more sense. you made my mind up for me :)

If I were you id run in the opposite direction to be honest.
Modded Turbo Car, that spells problems bud. 75 000Km for a car thats been chipped or what not. Means boosting more than what it should etc etc. Parts on the Seats are VERY expensive and warranty aint gonna pay if something goes wrong. Trust me, the guys that say software is undetecable are talking poo. Happened to me, if a techie knows what he is doing ,they can pick it up quick quick. Normally they just look past it BUT if something goes wrong ( Eg a Turbo ) they start looking WHY it went wrong and then my friend, your going to pay big bucks.

If I were in your shoes id be torn too. However I think the smart choice would be to walk away from this one :(

Thanks Mypro, was also thinking about that. Might just look for a standard spec one

gooooood idea.... Rather take a slip this time, another Cupra will come around... Dont' stress ;) ...

Understandably the only problem is that its a really good deal, and unlikely to come around again, but sometimes that deal isn't worth the possible endless trouble... Especially considering the fact it is modded from here to China...

Just be careful for the catch.... there's gotta be one....

But good luck anyways...

Ah lost it. He traded it in to VW. "Offered him a deal he couldnt refuse"

I think it was a sign.

Thanks though guys

Best possible outcome for you. A unmodded car is what you are looking for...

I have two friends who modded their cars...the one has a Mazda MPS and the other a 2008 Honda Civic 1.8 V-tec...their cars are burbling faint blue smoke from their mods....the MPS is already sold due to a potential problem...

sean - i have just over 35k km on the ibiza, it was registered dec 2007.
