Is this a good network switch?

Hot damn, they STILL make 10/100 switches? Really?

No it's not a good deal, it's 2014. Even facking wireless is faster than that these last few decades. Unless you want it to go with your collection of floppy disks, Nokia 5110's and pieces of the Titanic.

For the same money, you could get something modern.

People buy and use 10/100 switches all the time. If you are not doing any big file copying they are perfectly adequate in an office environment or for distributing ADSL. Wireless is not a lot faster - even 802.11n is a bit of a con because it just splits send and receive thereby "doubling" the 150mbps IIRC. Many cheaper boards only have 10/100 anyway, still. And - no need to be rude about my collection of floppy discs.

150 is more than 100.

No one was rude, I said they'd go well together. Like in a museum.

100Mb/s is perfect for internet access, if I was copying 100's of GB's then it would be a different story.

150 is more than 100.

Sure. By several orders of magnitude.

Besides, you only get 150mbps in lab conditions, with the devices within 1 metre, when the moon is blue, and when Vodacom actually run their specials.

I'm sorry, but I'm with TJ99 on this one. Why you would not want to buy a gigabit router in this day and age is beyond me. Unless you're doing a very specific installation, one day you're going to want to copy something over the LAN and then you're going to wish you went gigabit.

You do know that if a gigabit switch is plugged into a 100Mb router the person connected to the switch will download at only 10MB/s from the guy connected to the router.

Am I wrong?

Plus i will ONLY use it to connect the guys to the router for internet access.

Sorry Rickster but this is a stupid debate. Why buy less for the same price. Makes no sense.

If the switch is gigabit, you will copy/transfer files locally at gigabit speed, all connections will be on the same LAN.

No you're not wrong, but all the workstations connected to the gigabit router can communicate at gigabit speeds. Seeing as you're going have a lot of PC's connected on that side it would make sense.

TBH since i.got.issues posted that link to the D-Link DGS-1016 for R666, thats a freaking good price for a 16 port GBE switch, and its TP link. :)
