Is this a legit site https://www.techguysa.co.za

Courier guy is one of them yes.

Only use them for some regionals and express deliveries or "rushed"
I know DCB and i think DSV has fixed rates but those guys do pallet of couriers i have asked them (DCB before when i found out how much they charge etc) but they said no due to X Y Z not enough orders for them (at the time).

R650 is free insurance anyway even if its paid its like R20 which i cover on my end anyway. 650-2000 is small enough to manage but 50-60k diffent story of course.

trust me the day i get better or fixed rates any weight is the day i drop that price tag.
Yea our rates are really good but with fuel recently its pushed average order up by R10. The fuel surcharges some companies were coming in with 35% but through the company we use its about 15 to 20% max

i know i drive diesel myself filled her up last week cause sheesh

in talks with some alternatives .

I have a simple question for you and Mirai

IF item X on store A this is R850 with shipping insurance lets call it R60 and shipping R110 totaling at R1020 right

But if same item X at store B with shipping cost R910 with shipping R110 you going to first look at the R850 listing on google or the one on R910 and then calculate and decide?

I look at the best price and then the retailer. If it's a well known one, or one I used before, that favours that.

I get why you're doing this - to get the cheapest price. But it does look scummy to do it this way. In the industry the risk is borne by the merchant until the customer signs off, unless I arrange for my own courier pickup.

A better way would be to include the insurance in the shipping fee and offer no free shipping and offer one form of shipping or all forms of shipping are insured. I get that you have to insure the delivery, but you have to do that regardless because under the CPA and as per the overall standard the merchant is considered responsible until the item is delivered or picked up. The couriers are your agents, unless it's a situation that I send my own courier to you.

Cause it comes to the same amount just has a break down. I ask this cause both of you said simply raise the prices.

Only ask as i'm taking it into advisement for the weekend and the logic to me is if it cost the same sure but some clients want the cheaper options and then there is the option for them the cheaper option.

I would be willing to overlook an insurance fee, if the total was still way superior to alternatives.

If Amazon sells the item for R1000 with free shipping and you sell for R800 plus R100 for shipping and R50 for insurance, I may decide to go with you, although R50 is a small difference to risk hassles unless you have good ratings or I've used you before.

eitherway as ive said taking it under advisment as i am re doing the shipping (the shipping plugin has limitations so we reworked one to operate a a lot simplier and more straight forward.

otherwise as i was typing this had a call with csgo you not off on this but give me a few days and you will see the changes.

It just looks a bit iffy. Very few companies do it this way. Evetech does but they are reputed to have terrible customer support.

I did actually purchase a product from them last month but the price was significantly lower than elsewhere (now the price is back to similar as elsewhere) and so went with their 'insurance' to avoid the hassle of threatening with regulations and small claims courts. Even with the insurance the price was much, much lower than other sites.

Also good luck fighting a chargeback from a customer if an uninsured order goes missing or is damaged en route, if you can't show that the order was delivered successfully they will process the chargeback in the customers favour.

Whatever the case is I wouldn't order from techguysa.co.za until this policy is changed, it's such a silly pernickety way to do things, just build the insurance cost into the price/shipping. Even better is to get business insurance for your deliveries, or just accept that courier losses that can't be recovered from the courier itself is just a cost of doing business and a tiny one at that, the loss ratio at most couriers is tiny like 0.05% or even less if I recall correctly, which means it's typically not worth paying for insurance because the cost will be far greater than any actual losses incurred. Obviously use common sense for this, if someone orders a R60k laptop that would seriously damage cash flow if it went missing then by all means insure the delivery as a once off.

fair enough reputation wise my reviews speaks for them selves yes not all perfect no one is id find it sus too for 5/5 all the time (not why i left hellopeter).
But in general i fight for the clients cause the last thing one wants to do is refunds and or loose clients. I prefer return clients in general cause it means i got something right for them overall. Cant win all of course.

These are good feedbacks either way and today is the first time ive heard of these concerns. even my survey i had no one mentioned this. But its triggered me to have meetings with some other courier companies i know of and if i can get it right ill probably have lower shipping that's insured (which is and has been the aim anyway) and if i can get that right then i cant see why sales wont increase in general without taking losses or increasing margins.

No-one mentioned this on your surveys because either your clientele doesn't mind OR others who do, won't even bother to complete surveys. I have no idea which it is, maybe most customers don't care about the extra insurance fees, maybe most are not as clued up, or maybe the more savvy, more likely to return customers care more given that 99% of other sites don't do the insurance thing and have it included in the paid or free shipping. Anyway, good luck, all the best to you.

Same to you

Btw airbone i had to read your comment while offline as i have blocked you (i think i remember why but wont argue with you on this or then).

Like ive said before here or pm sure. you cant insure via courier guy more than 30k unless special arrangements so a laptop of 60k we do insure its in other ways or not mainly cause its really expensive in general and the 0.05% doesn't exist with these couriers i.e courier guy does not charge you 0.05% to insure goods if they did trust me we wouldn't have this conversation.

But if my current plans goes well and ill share this bit its looking like close to 1% less i can absorb that without increasing anything if plans go well. and then yes policies will change. Same when it comes to repairs as i have found out i dont have to cover shipping for repairs apparently clients have to but i always cover this simply as it is not fair on the client but i am going to tweak this (aimed at heavier items once ive ironed this out.

You seem to have a good business going, and good reputation.
You have things to look at and change/fix, you also seem to get that.

Good platform to work from, all the best.

thank you

i am willing to change if i see it is needed. The gone to black site was the last major change (to which i see some went that way ive so noticed...know who you are lol)

am also planning a revamp on the design just takes longer to plan than anything might only do it during december holidays since its the quiet months (generally speaking)

once im done with a couple of things (this and some lighter weigh operations on the server to help speed things up).

K

Updates
new shipping system created (Coded our own plugin lot more lightweight as well)
Wont go to too much detail
New "Display shipping calculator on product pages) It shouldnt have bugs but i do remember in my test last month this calculator runs well it checks what is in your cart and the qty you have currently selected and displays the cost as IF you have it in your cart.
Prices below are not base (Base + Rand per KG) (its a chair about 23kgs or so)
1788707539903.png

All goods in transits are insured no additional "fees"

I will of course tweak it as it goes. Specifically for high risk Zones as there is no table rates for that one i have to manually check and run what ifs

Prices checked (for shipping) and adjusted they going to adjust again in October if im not mistaken thats when couriers are going to increase their fees etc

TV sets have their own shipping rates for Regionals and high risk areas.
Still in talks for other couriers etc if it goes well see and then adjust accordingly (Lower of course) if i can do free shipping with this new method i would. Cause free shipping never works since our stuff weighs 1-90kg's and shipping 90kgs volumetric gets pricey.
Got quoted on 105 trolley inverters and it came to about R45k or something to that effect.

Terms and Conditions and Shipping pages are updated.

Sat till 4am last night on this (and slept for 2 hours so i can go to church) thats how serious i am about these types of posts instead of playing Ominushua this weekend.

1788708242387.png

as you can see shows insured and no additional (unless you paying EFT that's still discounted but we dropped it from 3% to 2%.

Please note i am still adjusting the prices of goods that chair is going up by R30 by tomorrow.
Our price match policy still stands (it wont display where it is after that page revamp i may do that little bit tonight regardless.)
That product page will get redesigned as well later on (i just havent had a chance as im having difficulty with that redesign (since the BNPL stuff just overtakes that corner got a plan just need to have coffee and focus maybe ill bang that tonight a bit since its not normal to tweek those product pages in the first place without breaking anything. after that ill start the planing stages for the rest of the revamps (colour will be little less harsh as well as someone mentioned to me its great but its too dark (noticed this on another monitor). Dark theme still the only theme showing making things pop but without killing peoples eyes. Same with the purple i like that colour may change the hex a little bit to more accuracy of the one i want to display.

Even if you have me blocked if you just click on my comment it will show it to you, you don't need to read it offline.

You perhaps misread my comment or I worded it wrong, what I meant is couriers only lose or damage something like 0.05% of shipments so the chance of it happening to your shipments if safely packaged is extremely slim and hence as a business that ships hundreds of shipments per month it does not make financial sense to pay the courier for insurance, it’s better to save the money you would have paid in insurance to cover any losses you may cover.

Even better is to get business insurance to cover all your shipments in transit, it’s apparently not very costly and far cheaper than paying the courier for insurance, they will cover a certain volume and value that you can preset.
