Hi,
I have a Billion 7402G and a Billion 7300G. I live in a triple storey town house. I have ADSLand telephone points with filiters on Floors 2 and 3. I would like to use the ADSL point on floor 2 as the connection with the 7402G hardwired to the telephone / ADSL connection and to provide wireless for all on floor 2. On floor 3 I can run a cable between the 7402G and the 7300g and then provide wireless for floor 3. Is it possible to link the 7402G on floor 2 to the 7300G on floor 3 by wirelees and then use this as the access point on floor 3?

Diagramme :

Billion 7402G====ADSL Line===Wirelees to other PCs and 7300G on Floor 3.

Floor 3 Billion 7300G ==== Wireless to 7402G and wireless to all PCs on floor 3

Thanks

Firstly how big is your house? that you can't use one wireless point?

Why can't the other pc's just pick up the wireless from Floor 2? that are on floor 3?

I think you should rather run a cable between the two, eh.

Thanks for reply. The Floors in the house are precast solid concrete and although a signal does get through its fairly weak (60%) The difficulty with running a cable is that as floors are solid precast I would not be able to drill or lead cable unless through existing cable run ie power, telephone or DSTV. I have also looked at Lan over power lines to connect he two floors but am just examining the possibility of using wireless to connect two routers and use them as realy points. Any advice?

have you tried just switching them both on and trying to connect to the one at the top? sometimes wireless devices run as relays. Just try it. Hope it works

I think the 7300G should support WDS, then you can connect the 2 routers to eachother using WDS...this will ensure that your 7300G acts only as an access point. You'll just have to confirm the WDS though.

If you can't run a cable, you could always try something like a Home Plug...this provides Ethernet over power, so all the cabling is in the house already. This will cost a bit though.

Hi Yes 7300G does do WDS and thats what I was thinking was to connect it as an AP to the 7402 and thn relay off the 7300 on top floor, its open plan so signal should be good all over. Is this a good option/

I would definately go with the WDS option...it works really well. Just remember to use the Wireless MAC address of both units.

OK Will try that on Wednesday (Public Holiday). Do I need to set up 7300G as adsl modem first so that I can programme it via web site ie security key, mac addresses etc. I suppose really what I should do is RFM:)
Thanks

You should need to set up the 7300g as a modem, just power and ethernet. Then enter the MAC address of the 7402 in the wireless settings on the 7300. Change the IP address, so you don't get a conflict.
Then enter the MAC address of the 7300 in the 7402.

Once you're done you'll have to point the 7300 to the IP of the 7402 to get internet from it.

Yes Thanks. I Intend connecting to the 7300G via ethernet cable and internet, setting it up, saving config etc and then reverting back to 7402 and then connecting 7300 to power only with wireless and see what happens.
