I notice that WebAfrica have 1mb ADSL rental @ R250/month. The downside is I have to take bandwidth with them. If I take the R29/month for 2 GB option, I pay R279/month instead of R325/month which Telkom charges for 1mb ADSL. I plan to get uncapped from Openweb.

Is there a catch to this that I am not seeing? What happens should I cancel WebAfrica's DSL bundle after a month? Will my line rental increase back to R325/month?

i am sure there would be some T&C that apply to the R250/month line rental eg. must be above R xxx.xx or on the following packages

hi if you cancel with webafrica you are looking at downtime when changing back to telkom beware. You would have to apply for adsl line again with telkom.

Thanks guys.
It obviously is still worth my while to take the WebAfrica 2GB then as I will only pay R279 (and in 3 months R289) a month. As opposed to Telkom rental of R325/month.
Is this correct?

but that obviously excludes the line costs?? and it shows for R326?

To ultilise our ADSL Line offerings, you require:

A Telkom telephone line (Check your line )

The adsl rental with openweb is R250 for a 1mb line.
Just seen your edit...I am also taking a Telkom Mix Closer 2 option which covers line rental.

u can move ur line to axxess for R249 and I don't think they have any restrictions on having any accounts with them, but check and let us know :)

I would keep my line with Telkom if I was you, I've seen too many people have issues when trying to get their line transferred again.

What is the difference between Axxess or a Telkom line? Why would I want to back to renting my line from Telkom if Axxess offers the same service? Just curious.

if you have your line with anyone but telkom, you will have to...

1. log line faults via your ISP and deal with them for support.
2. If you ever need to cancel your phone or move it somewhere else, you will have to first wait 30 days for your ISP to send the request to telkom, once that shows up done on telkom's system, telkom can apply to move or cancel your telkom line. (your ISP can try get things done faster if moving to same neighbourhood area.)

When I last checked the 1 meg line rental is R289 per month not R325

Thanks

Just called them and Telkom confirmed it is R326/month. I am not sure why it says R289/month there.
Axxess it is then.

Axxess says I should first upgrade to a 1mb line with Telkom and then transfer it over to them. Will b ebilled pro-rata by both companies.

Lol Telkom fail... The prices were decreased a few weeks ago! Mybb had a big splash about the pricing from Telkom... The 512/1024kbps was basically the only saving that telkom gave in their recent price revisions from August

I have now called Telkom to upgrade the line and the price is now R289/month! lol

By all means, stick to Telkom!!!
Why?
Because Telkom is slowly increasing their service levels; if you call their hotlines after hours you might even get an operator on the line who knows what he/she's doing. If you go with a line by any ISP you gotta deal thru them (misunderstandings, being forgotten, all that stuff) and also you're bound to that ISP. You can't take advantage of AH deals or similar cheap bandwith. Stick with Telkom and you're free to go wherever.

Cut out the middleman. If the line goes through Telkom anyway, why have another party confusing everything? You might save a few bucks here and there, but if you ever want anything technical done to the line or want to switch to another bandwidth provider, one word: screwed.
