Is this appropriate for a 4MB line?

I'm an absolute noob when it comes to these things, but I'm trying my best to understand...

I currently have a 4MB line. I'm not sure where the nearest exchange is but I live in Brackendowns, Alberton. The data package is appropriate for my line.

According to this topic about SNR and attenuation (click here), I have an outstanding SNR and very poor attenuation. So this means that I probably live far from the exchange and nothing further can be done...right?

SpeedTest Results:

I've noticed that my line speed has deteriorated with time. I used to get download speeds of 0.80 MB/s. These days I get 0.40 to 0.65 Mb/s.

Any thoughts or comments?

Your line is only syncing at 864k, so i would recommend downgrading to the 512k package (now 1meg) as you are wasting your money on a 4meg line! Not much can be done other than changing your package! Sometimes a router can make your line a bit more stable and deal with porr attenuation etc but i dont have to many details on that, i know my router i have no is more stable than my previous one!

yeah +1 downgrade, your bit far from exchange to provide 4mps service

The brackendowns exchange/Telkom team is a joke, for the last 3 years I have had Telkom out on countless occasions to solve issues. It will sync at 7mbit (connect at 4 ofc) for a week or two and then suddenly you cannot get better than 1mbit. They come out, replace a cable - fiddle at the exchange and everything is fine for the next week until the cycle starts again.

Sometimes my router will sync at 1200 kpbs, and yet the download speeds are still between 0.40 to 0.65 Mb/s.
