Hi guys, never seen a scratch like this before, so thought id ask for some advice,

Lcd monitor is a dell e173fpc 17"
Works fine, and damage seems cosmetic as its not a deep enough scratch but its ugly nonteless,
Got it this way, so not even sure what caused it,

Not sure how visible it is,1428082070725.jpg

Scratch isnt deep and in lower left section on monitor, no pixels affected as image still shows behind it, but looks like a scratch of the coating only...

My question is there any chemicals, techiques to remove it?

Also, how much would this knock off the price uf i sold it via mybb, gumtree?

Unfortunately its almost impossible to remove scratches from the plastic surface of the LCD display without damaging it further.

Wax is a good type of polish or filler. By wax I mean candle wax. The technique is to use it as poly filler in the cut.

You could try polishing it like they do to remove scratches from cars. Or use one of those fillers they make for that. Don't know which ones work. What it basically does it diffract light from one end of the scratch to the other. It should still allow the pixels to show through.

I caused a scratch similar to that when holding a screwdriver near a laptop I once had. The scratch wasn't quite that bad though. Polishing it isn't a good idea at all for matte LCDs. It does dull the scratch, but creates a shiny spot which actually draws your attention to it more.

My suggestion is to just leave well alone and to sell it as it is. Since it's only a 17", it's probably only worth about R300-R350 anyway.

This...some kind of filler is your best bet by far.

I wouldn't go for candle wax...personally I'd try Vaseline as first attempt. (thats not experience...just winging it here)
