Is this psu ok for my system?

Hi guys,

Please tell me if the huntkey max600w is ok for my system... model number :HK600-53AP.

system : mb - gigabyte h61m-s2v-b3
gpu - msi 6870 hawk
cpu - i3 2100
hdd - 1 x 1tb seagate 7200rpm, 1 x 500gig seagate 7200rpm.
ram - 2 x 2gig ddr3 1333


my case is an antec something something... 2 intake, 1 rear exhaust and a huge exhaust on the top.
 
I don't see why not, look at my Pc specs, I run much more on a 650w. You might get bashed from other forumers for the brand of the PSU though, I don't know anything about huntkey so who knows. :D
 
A decent 450W PSU would be more than capable of running that system of yours.

If you can, stay away from Huntkey, Coolermaster, iSonic and Gigabyte PSU's. Stick with Antec, Corsair & Seasonic if you can, and try to go for the single +12V rail design ones.

What PSU do you currently have, and what were you going to pay for that Huntkey PSU?
If you can't find a review on the PSU, then rather go for a different one where you can find a solid review for.
 
I have this psu already. Just trying to rule out a gpu problem. However i tried another antec 500w psu and that didnt solve the gpu problem.
 
I have that exact Huntkey PSU, It's good enough for my PC, but I have a C2D E8400, 4GB DDR2 and a GTX 260, and 3 SATA HDD's and 2 DVD-RW. It get's pretty warm even with my config. I would go for a Cooler Master 650 rather. The Huntkey 600w is not a "true" 600w PSU, it's more like a 500w. Tests on youtube have shown them blow-up instantly of you actually put 600w into them.

When you're getting artifact issues with your HD6870 Hawk, try increasing the voltage on the GPU slightly with MSI Afterburner.
I think it is the same issue where some of the cards are shipped with too low voltages for their factory overclocked settings, which would result in artifacts.

Your PSU is perhaps good enough for your current system. Other than increasing the voltage, you can also try decreasing the GPU & memory speeds to the stock speeds.

@Totempole:
The Coolermaster Extreme Power series PSU's are also max-rated PSU's, like this Huntkey one. The continuous power rated ones, like the Silent Pro series from Coolermaster are just so expensive to buy.

Fact remains it shouldnt be like this. I didnt but a gpu to underclock it or to ajust voltage! I want what i paid for therefor i will be taking it back. It has gotten worse. Artifacts now whereas before it was running fine. The huntkey states 500w continous and my gpu needs that as a minimum. doing the math i am fine. I think i just got a bad gpu...
 
Yes, it could very well be a faulty card, but I've also seen this kind issue quite a few times with like Gigabyte GTX560 Ti OC cards where they weren't given enough voltage with the stock firmware.

I doubt that the Huntkey PSU would even do 450W continuous.
The other problem with it is that it has dual +12V rails, which means that even though the total continuous power is enough, you could be overloading the individual rails.

Test with a decent 500-600W PSU that uses a single +12V rail design, and then either downclock it or increase the voltage.
If you don't have those facilities yourself or a friend with it, then you should take it in for testing.
 
only reason i thought it was the gpu is because the card was perfectly fine. then started doing this... ill test it on a friends system before i send it in... then ill be taking my psu back as the guys said it was more than adequate for my system...
