When downloading multiple files on my Neoconnect Lite, if i add up the speeds on all individual downloads i get a rather high speed. In this case 45,6kb/s. But when downloading one file, the speed sits around 19kb/s.
How so?

One car driving down the highway vs three cars driving down the highway... chuck in a bit of traffic. Which will get 20 people from A to B quicker?

Wrong concept or example, whichever way you want to interpret.

If the line speed reaches the higher download speed with 3 downloads, it should also reach it with a single download.

Simultaneous downloads divide the maximum line speed amongst each other, not necessarily equal speeds each but, the total can only equal to the maximum line speed.

Whatever he is downloading at 19kb/s maybe from a slow site, thats more like it.

19-20 kBps 152 - 160 kbps is the max data transfer rate for the Neo-Connect Lite device.

Not sure why that is Greylid, but I did a few tests this morning and I do see what you mean, downloading 2 files at the same time and adding their speeds together just gave me: 11 kBps (88 kbps) + 10 kBps (80 kbps) == 21 kBps (168kbps) Which according to Neotel's claims should not be possible.

I tested a few times and never got over 19-20 kBps with more than two files downloading all the time, seems random.

Yeah, should have added that both options are limited by the same maximum speed...

I took a screenie, take a look:

You can't compare download speeds unless it is off the same server. For example if you download from a mirror in Australia it is going to be slower than a mirror in the UK regardless of your local line speed because the international speeds differ from continent to continent.

Maybe neotel limits each download thread like telkom do with adsl. Each thread is only allowed a specific amount of resources.

But then how do those downloads in the screenie i put up add up to like 45Kb/s if Neotel say the neoconnect light will deliver speeds at up to 153kbps or watever is is that would equal like 19/20Kb/s max??:)
*ponders*

Yep that is a puzzle hey Greylid, would be nice for Mr.Neotel to make a technical comment or reason to why this is. What is your signal strength and clarity like ?
I have noticed from yesterday that I am now sitting on a constant 4 bars (Without moving the device, I am actually to scared to even bump the device so rather let sleeping dogs lie) and ping times to neotel.co.za are constantly at mid 200's so as far as I can tell my signal strength and clarity is improving all the time.
Downloads are much more consistent aswell and don't spike then drop, I left some downloads running over night and I checked that they kept to an average of 152 kbps overall.
Silly question but not sure if it is related... with CDMA does general signal clarity improve with more users ? i.e Do we not assist each other that are in close proximity ?

I am in the ''excellent'' coverage area so i am constantly at full reception.:)
I think the service is getting better hey, i have had it for a little over a month, when i first left a download on overnight it failed about half way. But recently i have been leaving things to download at about 6pm until 6am in the morning without fail. My average speeds are about 16Kb/s solid. Not a bad service for R460 odd rand. My question is what is it with this whole incoming port unblocing thing? I have searched around about it but am still curious, will it increase speeds?

Sheesh that is pretty cool, glad to hear you are getting consistent signal, i have been battling over the last 3-4 months with signal but it is finally alot better.
It seems default http ports are open by default so we get max download speed, but I noticed with torrents and through my client Bitcomet I needed to open the port I was using to increase from 4-5kBps to 15-20kBps once opened. So yep if you are downloading anything that does not use http ports (80 and 8080) and the few other default ports, then you would need to request that your ports are opened.
I see a few people using Neotel have all gone about opening ports different ways but I just called in, asked for 2nd level support, requested a trouble ticket be opened to only open the ports I requested, not all of them. I initially requested just a few ports that I knew I would be using and testing with skype and basically a day later I received a call back letting me know that my ports that were requested were opened and asked me permission to close the trouble ticket.
