Is this the future of programming?

Death of JavaScript?

Saw it was a video, didn't click play. Somebody got a summary?

He talks the history and - his idea opinion about - the future of JavaScript with a strong sense of disregard to the language.
His main takeaway I got is that JavaScript and Node.js is bad because it's functional and isn't strongly typed.

His views is flawed to the core as he tries to prove his point using terribly written JavaScript code.
Most of the talk is also about asm.js.

Did you miss the whole comedy part?

Meh, sounds like another hater.

Not being strongly typed is an issue...sometimes. But then show me a language that is not flawed in some way.

This science fiction / comedy / absurdist / completely serious talk traces the history of JavaScript, and programming in general, from 1995 until 2035. It's not pro- or anti-JavaScript; the language's flaws are discussed frankly, but its ultimate impact on the industry is tremendously positive. For Gary's more serious (and less futuristic) thoughts on programming, try some Destroy All Software screencasts.

Are there any disadvantages in using typescript? Any reason not to use it?

Well i guess its more syntax to learn, but also that ECMAScript 6 is not complete yet, so with that in mind it could change. Is there likely to be any massive changes? I doubt it. I have not picked up any disadvantages as of yet. Now coffeescript, that is crap.
