Is uncapped broadband on its way out?

Retired before it even starts working. Niiiiice!

Maybe we should retire South Africa's road network too, because some people are just driving too much. Morons.
 
Looks like Mweb could be getting a lot more uncapped clients in the near future.

Oh damn we're no longer making vast profits let's all go back to capped offerings and make SA pay the highest per GB price in the world. Thanks you very much industry leaders!
 
Actually, if they scap the pay-per-gig model and everyone sells uncapped it will work.

At the moment my parents use 1gb a month, thus they buy 1gb per month. Heavy users pay more for uncapped, but only heavy users see the need to buy uncapped.

Imagine for a moment if we had only the following options in this country:
384k uncapped for R100pm
512k uncapped for R200pm
1m uncapped for R300pm
2m uncapped for R400pm
4m uncapped for R500pm
6m uncapped for R600pm
8m uncapped for R700pm
10m uncapped for R800pm

This would mean that EVERYONE is on uncapped, but only a fraction of that would be heavy users. Thus, the light users subsidizes the heavy users. Sure, some users will download 100s of gigs a month, but others only 1 or 2. By giving all the users the choice of speed rather than cap you can still choose what you want, but you pay more for speed, not for how much you use it.

The reason uncapped might fail in SA is because of the capped model. Who would pay R100pm for uncapped if they can pay R19 per month for 1gig and they know 1gig is enough?

P.S. If we could get telscum to drop the line rentals this model could actually work, eg make a 384k line with uncapped data R150pm, thus the end user price is the same, but telkom only takes R50pm.

Also make per gig models illegal otherwise people would still stick to them.

But we all know how great I***A is at bridging the digital divide and helping SA get out of the internet stone age.

In other words : We want to rip customers off and make lots of profit so we need to bill a customer for each and every service that they use over their connection and not just the bandwidth that they use.

I'm loving my MWeb 384K uncapped - so nice to not have to worry about bandwidth accounting and billing.

Loads of retarded speakers at this conference!!! Listen to Ron Reddick you poepholle!!! Sort out the telecoms industry in this country first and dont come and spin a story because the uncapped players are stealing clients. Talk like this always comes when some one is losing clients (money) and now they need to justify something so they dont go bust en get pushed out of service.

People desperately need affordable uncapped services in SA so we can do business properly. Capping people is just another strangle hold that keeps business back and keeps us in the dark ages and the first world countries just keep on going.
 
The only way to drive data prices lower is to increase the usage.
I think the biggest problem is line speed cost and the "fair" usage policy ISP's provide.

The gap between 384k, 512k and 4M/10M is just too great!
How can Telscum up the speed on existing clients but be unable to supply any new users with basic ADSL?
Some ISP's have adjusted their "fair" use policy now to such levels that it does not make it worthwhile on 4M uncapped.
 
What they're meaning to say is that they're not squeezing as much out of us as they'd like to. The greed of these absolute morons astounds me.
 
If they take away my uncapped i will commit live suicide outside MWEB Headquarters........................................or maybe just write a very mean letter

No ways, they were used to the high margins (and always have to blame Telkom) and want to continue to extort funds from consumers... They can't seem to understand the analogy - build the road and the traffic will come.
