Is uncapped broadband really uncapped?

Nope, Afrihost never had any uncapped products when Mweb "Freed the Web"...

There was nothing wrong with with MWEB's initial uncapped offering. The problem came in when other ISPs decided to compete on price instead of quality.

Then everything went to ****.

Then why did everybody jump ship from mweb's uncapped offerings within a few months? It wasn't just price. It was because Mweb was shaping them to oblivion.
Today they have a terrible reputation for their uncapped offering.

yeah people jumped ship from mweb because of fup/aup issues

The ASA should force ISP's to disclose the throttle rules eg. "at 120GB your 4Mbps will drop to 0.4Mbps and our contention ratio is 30:1"

This would allow for a more competitive and transparent ISP landscape.

It is difficult for customers to compare and choose a suitable package.
I concur.

I've tried to get that type of info from Afrihost, as they work on a "star based" system, but after a while I gave up

Neotel does it well with most of their products. Not contention ratios, but their products say.

10Mb/s, after 500GBs, line speed drops to 5MB/s.

Would be so much simpler for people to understand.

Your speed will be as fast as your Telkom ADSL line allows for Realtime traffic.
Lies...all lies!

Streaming on Afrihost is terrible :/ I could barely watch Twitch the past weekend :-(

Rhetorical article title.

Afrihost claim there business lines are (uncapped, unshaped, unthrottled, unlimited). I have no idea about their contention ratio's. And we all have to go through an exchange at the end of the day.

I have been pretty happy with their 4Mbps business package. It does not seem to be at all limited to me, and most of the time I can stream YouTube at 720p, but not really 1080p. And downloads are good.

Quick question to all you fine chaps out there: I have a 2Mb line.

I have no exchange congestion. My SNR and attenuation are excellent. The Exchange is <100m away and I had new copper replaced from my house to the box.

But, my latency to the EU servers are crap at 500-2000ms. Tried Telkom and Afrihost capped accounts and both perform similarly in terms of speed and pings.

Well you didn't exactly choose the best ISPs to test with.

Grab a free account from Web Africa and test again.

if your restaurant offer's Beffet why punish those with eating disorder?

Over the last year, I use 90gigs on average on my 4meg uncapped account. Afrihost does not throttle, they strangle you to death. It doesnt matter what time, day,etc...they will strangle you. Line drops constantly. They sell it as a 4meg uncapped, but in reality its glorified dial up.

I agree 100%. Useless with streaming, and do not even dare try download 1 torrent. Your download speed will run at 6kps, like mine do.
