I am an IS Uncapped Express+ user (Axxess) on a 10mb service. The max throughput of my line is about 8.7mbps, and with Express+, I regularly hit that. However, lately I have noticed that the throughput has been less than consistent; as of right now, I am getting 5mbps.

I've been with Express+ for over two years now (although at 4mbps until this month), and to be honest, I've come to expect nothing less than full speed from this account. I believe that if I am in the top 20% of users, I will get shaped to some degree, and my usage *is* high, so perhaps it's that. Are there any other 10mbps users of Express+ that can share their experiences? Is it wishful thinking to expect full line speed on a 10mbps service from 7pm to 7am on Express+?

frankly, i feel you guys have full rights to complain, because (and correct me if i'm mistaken) an express+ account costs considerably more than the conventional 4mb 'uncapped' accounts out there

You also pay the price when it comes to speed during the day... That crawls! So I think you should query it.

My ADSL is also slow, did a google and I found this:

Between 02:00 on 16th and 23:59 on 24th July there will be internet traffic reroute testing in preparation for the maintenance on the SMW4 (Seacom) undersea cable system. At 00:00 on 25th July the maintenance begins and is scheduled to end at 23:59 on 31st July. Traffic will be rerouted via the TE-North cable system. No service impact is expected, however, if there is any impact, it will be a minor speed decrease to international sites. Internet Solutions engineers will be monitoring closely and will advise if anything changes.

Internet downloads and speeds may be slow.

Also did some speed test on 2 different providers but both on IS, and the download speeds are weird, I'm in Pretoria, the lowest to higher speeds is Pretoria, then JHB, Cape Town and Durban, and the surprise New York is faster that all the locals. How? Also tested with IS's own speed test to their data centres in Rosebank and New York. Rosebank's line speed was much lower that to New York, and also the download speeds. How again? Is local being throttled?

Looking at my graphs, I can see that my speeds picked up at about 3am last night.

Furthermore, despite the fact that I should be rate limited right now, my account is running at full-taps (as at 08h56). Lets hope they were just preparing for the Seacom maintenance, and/or it was a glitch in the Matrix.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, speedtest.net can no longer be considered a reliable measurement of one's speed. I often get inconsistent results between the servers as well as real life performance measured using a download manager...

Just a thought

Has the Uncapped Express+ user (Axxess) have unshaped torrent download if not which ISP has one?

Its 07h21 on a Saturday, and the max throughput I am getting is 5.5mbps. I should be getting 8.7mbps at this time (and I used to).

Looks like even the once-great IS Express+ accounts cannot keep up with the massive surge of users getting uncapped Internet.

On the after hours uncapped equivalent from OW, running at 50% capacity since last night, bit disappointing but as you say, symptomatic of uncapped SA style...

Yeah mine seems locked at about 5mbps for all international traffic.

I have opened a ticket with Axxess, asking them to please query it with IS. I'm not holding out much hope though. At the very least, I would like an answer as to why this is happening.
