Just braaid skilpadjies, they caught flame and were just a little scorched on the oudside and raw on the inside. Put them in the mike for 3 mins and they turned out perfect.
Is using a mike wrong? You never see Nigella, or whoever on the cooking chan using a microwave, yet it is such a good tool to make your tasty art perfect.

Well actually next time put salt on the coals then no flames. nothing wrong with nuking stuff, though for those bbc chefs it'd be unfashionable.

what's skilpadjies?

I don't see why salt will kill a flame, unless used in excessive amounts, in which case won`t water work better? Thanks for the tip though.. will try it next time.

Not wrong at all. It's called using the tools at your disposal. Quite a few real chefs actually use a microwave.

Don't worry about Nigella - she can't use a microwave, because it will melt those talons she uses to mess in the food. ;)

It works and very well, I forget why but I can find out.
Use about a handfull or so. Salt is cheap, and cheaper than stuffing up the meat.

Its very wrong..
and evil and will lead to the end of the world.

I see even Jamie Oliver has microwave recipes, but there are certain foods that become rubbery in a microwave. I wouldn't do chicken in it and not really fish either. Pizzas also re-heat better in a regular oven than in a microwave. You need "dry" heat for certain things.

(I'm talking about microwave only, not the ones that are also convection ovens.)

They should be crispy on the outside and melt-in-your-mouth on the inside.
If you stand around drinking beer, your skilpadjies will become the charcoal upon which you grill your sausages.

Shot.
found a recipe.

10 minutes on the grill, much the same as steak then.

I don't think microwaves should be your primary way of cooking food but they are useful for a lot of tasks and save a lot of time.

Also Nigella is terrible.

A microwave is like a steamer. It heats up the water in the food. Your pies are gonna get soggy and carrots will get dry. For some things it's ideal.

If you need to use a microwave before or after you braai only one of 2 things can cause this:

1. You fail at braai'ng
2. You fail at braai'ng

or Both.

But it makes for excellent damage control. Better to make sure the food comes out good than not to admit the fail and have your food end up as lumps of coal.

I even use it sometimes just to play it safe. Nothing like a surprising slimy piece of raw chicken. A microwave ensures just the right consistency on the inside without drying it out, on those foods that absolutely cannot be a little raw.

Would never use it on a steak though...
