Just check the NoJack Youtube channel, they recover cars and sometimes people many times with the aid of a tracker

Exactly my point, Nojack is a small company, selling information in a company that small is not popular, but with the big companies your information is more likely sold to criminals by employees, inside info is a big part of the criminal world, same with employees at the factories where they build these cars, the sell security information about these to criminals.

Yes Nojack recovers vehicles with the aid of tracker, but remember just like in every profession, you get professional criminals who know the ins and out, they are trained and have professional equipment to disable trackers etc, then you chancers and junior criminals who dont quite know how to pull of the perfect crime yet, and those are the ones you see getting caught.

Remember NoJack only posts videos when they catch someone but how many criminals do you think elude those guys? Ofcourse you will never see those videos.

Your argument is even supporting the use-case of a tracker, even if the tracker increased your chance of recovery of the occupants' by 10%, it's worth it.

That's pretty obvious I would imagine, the hijack/recovery ratio is definitely not 1:1

Nope, not really hilarious. Most insurance companies are like that.

My previous insurance underwriter was pretty adamant I get a tracker for my old car so I asked what discount I get for having a tracker and it was around R60 or so for a R99 a month tracker. I laughed at my broker and said if the underwriter requires a tracker for my vehicle, find me an underwriter who doesn't. Magically the tracker requirement with that underwriter vanished instantly.

I went with King Price with no tracker. I just found this system odd that trackers don't save people money.
 
Nope, never falling for that again. The first thing I ask when getting an insurance quote is if they require that I install a tracker. I walk away as soon as they say yes.

A tracker is the 36 months contract that you are stuck with if you change insurers, sell the car or have a write off. Plus their uselessness is understated.
 
Technically, my car is fitted with a tracker, but I do not subscribe to Tracker every month. The unit was installed in the new vehicle at the dealership, but there is no requirement from insurance to have one fitted...

Yeah this is very true, My car was written off by the insurance after an accident and Tracker absolutely refused to cancel, to make matters worse they kept on sending me notifications of the car being in high risk areas long after insurance had settled.....even now when I get bored I log into the app and see were the "written off" car is ,didn't even bother to deactivate the account. :confused:
 
Not my own car, no. Too low risk in terms of theft and hijacking. My parents' cars on my policy, yes, because Discovery Insure classifies them as high risk and therefore requires mandatory vehicle tracking for those two vehicles.

PPS has given me this condition as well and their premium kinda beats Naked

But by adding the tracker amount, then they’re almost evenly matched coz Naked doesn’t require one. Idk
 
Worked for a manufacturer of Tracking Units and in Cab Video surveillance units and have had the one I designed installed for many years. Insurer didn't bother about asking, they cover all eventualities (Momentum formerly Alex Forbes).

The units were mainly used by companies to understand hot spot areas and areas where the vehicles were eventually dumped (if at all) to then see if they could locate the criminal hideouts . The units we designed detected GSM and GPS jamming so we switched to frequency based methods to send information (either via other units in someone else's car that was not stolen to act as a relay or towers in field).

Some fun stuff out there. We once found a Dry Ice cooled GPS and GSM jammer in a hi-jackers car, they have some powerful devices criminals.

You need to own a few companies to have R1.5-2m cash lying around for a car lol. And one also doesn't just wanna drive around in anything.
