I been lurking here for a while and I am mortified at the way the South Afrcan ADSL has turned out.

I wonder how many ISDN users are reading these forums and Like me Want to "upgrade" to ADSL but thinking "HELL NO!" after reading what you guys are going through..

If you know what is good for you you will stay as far away from adsl as possible. I changed from isdn to adsl 2 weeks ago and i already contacted telkom and told them to shove it. I'm going back to isdn 64k.

It is certainly the most versatile internet option at the moment. Even better than 128k. And cheaper.

Welcome SqueaL.

I'd go ISDN in a second if it wasn't for the fact that I need access during the day and I refuse to pay Telkom's ridiculous non callmore rates. And I certainly can't afford a leased line. So you're kind of stuck between a rock and a very hard place.

Thanks,

That is exactly the problem that I fact, to compensate, I have shifted my whole life around where I work "night Shift" 7PM - 7AM on R7 call. Luckly I work for myself so I can do this, But what a Pain!

GAWD what a country we live in.....

I'm sitting in the same boat. I worked at night and slept during the day. It came to a stage where I couldn't take it any more, so thats when I decided to install the ADSL line. I'm 2/3 of my way to the cap and I'm really worried because if I hit the cap and can't surf, my business will go down the tube.

That is exactly why Telscum should Not be in the ISP business. Internet access is based on standard telkon voice phone rates. This is killing small business for those who can't afford dedicated lines. In many other countries, local calls are charged at WAY cheaper rates, in many cases a fixed rate Per call.

ADSL would be the answer BUT look at the fiasco..

I'm sure there must be plenty of people like me who are stuck in the middle. Who need daytime net access, but which the present telscum ADSL is not a solution.

Well, I'm just hoping that if we all stand together, we will make some kind of difference.

I'm waiting, as patiently as I can for Telkom to release their new ADSL offering. Whatever they are planning, I have no idea, but I just hope it will be an answer to some of our problems. Needless to say, it will probably cost more, which none of us are going to be happy with. So whether we win in the end is a wait and see matter.

Hi VQuest

We did already make a difference, and with our continual growth we are becoming a legitimate representative of ADSL users. Telkom will continue to make us out to be an uninformed bunch of unhappy users, but the media will not believe this for too long. They will sooner or later have to address our issues, but I think they want to stall it until such time that they have a new product to offer. This is not acceptable…we have to use the net in the mean time!

Watch this forum for some action plans soon. We have 200% more reason to be taken seriously in comparison with our first media report (that is how much or membership grew since then).

I do believe that we have made a difference and we will continue to make a difference.

You're right, they are trying to stall us. And as you know, thats the exact reason why we must not stop here. The more pressure we put on them, the more likely we are to get somewhere.

It's incredibly pleasing to see this forum growing so quickly and I look forward to interesting times ahead.
