Isn't TELKOM the greatest ever?

He is STUCK into a 24 month contract no matter what happens...there is gonna be a lot of movement in the ADSL market over the next 3/4 months and he's gonna be stuck on a *** package whereas those of us who pay on a month to month basis can move around to take advantage of the newer packages. Hell, I already have :D ;)

On the lower packages (eg 3Gb + 30 Gb local) is Telkom not the cheapest around?

Hey Picard

Did you sign a 24 month contract for the line only or the line and bandwidth

I don't know if its the case now but the 24 month contracts used to be for the line only and the bandwidth you purchased separately from the ISP of your choice

The free Modem came with the Line rental not the bandwdith

If this is the case unless the Local loop unbundling comes though sooner than 24 months and actually makes ISP's able to sell lines what difference does it make signing a 24 month contract at the moment

I think there is a lesson to be learned here. Don't post what u did, someone in this forum is gonna make you feel bad about it

I mean thats well done to the guy who pointed out a modem for R360 :p

i signed a contract... there is nothing wrong with it.. as a matter of fact i think its a great place to start building my credit record :)

i pay approx 690 bux per month for the contract + 5 gig inter cap and 30 gig local.. that also includes the line rental.. and phone line rental..

i cannot afford to fork out 600 rand for a router.. then 700 for telkoms line deposit then another 690 for the first month..

so i sign a contract.. i skip 600 rand.. i get a router.... i also skip line installation thats another 500+- rand.. so in total i saved 1100 from signing that contract

I pay exactly:
- R413 for the 4MB ADSL line
- R131 for the telephone line
- R079 for Telkom 1GB with 10GB local (used as 11GB local-only)
- R290 for 10GB of international BW from AfriHost
------------
* R913 per month. i.e. The price of a small car.

I think the Telkom 24 month deal is absolutely superb, but I need their 1GB package with their 4MB line, which they do not offer.

According to the DO website, the DO3 package consists of:
- R 554 for a 4MB line + 5GB international + 30GB local only.

So, add line rental:
- R131 for the telephone line

Add the 10GB from Afrihost:
- R290 for 10GB of international BW from AfriHost

-----------
* R975

But - that's 5 GB more international than I need

So if I drop Afrihost to 5GB
- R145 for Afrihost 5GB international
Difference = 290 - 145 = 145
-----------
* R830

A savings of R83 from my old setup. But, then I am stuck with monitoring the first 5 GB of international usage and being forced to pay international rates for local-only for the first 5 GB of usage. Bleugh.
Messy messy messy.
