Well Im rather pissed off with this change, but I suppose it was bound to happen. To everyone I so happily inspired to get this, well.. obviously for 30gig this is not worth it anymore.

Here is the email from isoft:

Dear ‘uncapped” ADSL Subscriber

I have just had an emergency meeting with Telkom and due to pressure from them we are no longer allowed to supply “uncapped” ADSL
accounts. With immediate effect we have to limit your data transfer to 30GB.

Customers wishing to utilize more than 30GB will have to purchase another 30GB account for R680 ex VAT. This will give them a
different username and password.
Once you reach your cap you will not be able to authenticate on the network. We advise you to either purchase multiple 30GB accounts
for this or to purchase a couple of 3GB accounts for when you reach your limit.

We are very sorry for this inconvenience but our hands are tied. We are getting new customers all the time and I have been speaking to
people today about “uncapped” and that it may disappear tomorrow; little did I know that it would become a reality so soon. We hope
you will continue to support us as we strive for excellence in our services to you and we thank you for your loyalty so far.

For those of you who are not sure, I can assure you our service will remain the same as it has been for you on ADSL thus far. There is no
other service comparable to this one in this country. If you know of any please let me know.

In the event of you wishing to cancel your services with us, please let me know via email so I can do the necessary.

who was this through, so wait, does this effectivly end the local uncapped situation as well as the hope of uncapped 1mbit?

Sad news. I thought it was too good to be true.

They will have to drop their pricing to be able to compete with Axxess and Imaginet.

What a wunch of bankers telkom are.

well, isoftnet can only offer 30gig aswell.. according to their meeting with Telkom.. so their uncapped is not going anymore.

looks like 30gig going to be the market max on saix from now on, thats all I can see.

Let me make sure I dont send a bad message, isoftnet tried to offer uncapped and was denied by telkom, prob with their iron fist ruling over all the ****. I have nothing against isoftnet, just the situation kinda did reflect on them now unfortunately.

whatever future product isoftnet do offer, I will look into. I really enjoy communicating with them :)

Best of luck isoftnet for the future of internet business in SA, just one(maybe your first?) headaching obstacle you had to face now :(

I dont see the point?

You think its an conspiracy? Haha, tell you what friend.. Telkom is one big conspiracy on its own.

You think its an conspiracy?
I am the lead designer for WebAfrica, just saying that they copied our design was all.

waroop - then say what u think without hints, it makes life easier.

Well WA have stated that technically they could offer uncapped but it would be illegal. I think this is what Isoft did. They did however say that things might change after the 1st of Aug or the 1st of Sept. I hope we can soon get 30GB for even cheaper.

Sad news, but expected. It would have been nice to have someone in the market able to provide uncapped access, it would help persuade the other ISP's to follow a similar route.

What I find unusual is that Isoftnet must have realized that they would not be able to provide uncapped accounts through Saix. What made them believe they could despite the fact that nobody else has managed to? Also concerning that they have not updated their website to indicate that they don't actually have uncapped, but rather 30G account options.

Anyway, I hope Icasa are watching since there is no technical reason why they can't have uncapped accounts, it seems to be yet another example of Telkom artificially creating limitations.

R680 ex VAT? They're way more than Axxess, AYCE, or WA arent they?

yep thats true, they better recheck those pricings to be competitive.

Ja **** i feel like a idiot i signed with them on tuesday...

ja swaar, so is die lewe in Suid-Afrika, op en af, op en af.. definitief nie beter as SEX nie.

*sug*

I think you must have some serious issues with your setup. I tried them (Isoftnet) for a day, and it was perfect - exactly the same (full) speeds as with a normal (Saix) account.

Correct me if I am wrong, but you are also having P2P "issues" with Axxess? Slow speeds etc.

MansoN yip - I'm only talking about the p2p aspect - other speeds were fine, but I dont need http/ftp speeds unfortunately.
According to Axxess themselves, and as franco posted somewhere on forum, they ARE
getting throttled on p2p protocols. Apparently some folks are lucky and getting full
speeds, but not everyone.. and this seems to be across all Saix resold b/w. Again,
for some reason its luck of the draw as to who gets the 1 -3KB download speeds.
