I'm working on an application that will display some form of maps/landscape and data.

I need two ways to display it, due to the vast range of hardware it might be run on, one low performance and a very nice version for the gaming PCs.

So a friend suggested to use an isometric engine for the low performance version... Like what Diablo II used. My google-fu must be a bit rusty, because I can't find much on the subject involving XNA.

Hence, this post. ;)

I'll figure out the fancy 3D side of it all when I get there.

Does anyone have some experience with it or any info that will help?

AFAIK, if you go the XNA route you're already looking at PCs running DirectX 9c or higher. Might as well write the the 3D engine scalable enough to accommodate both scenarios?

I did not know that... o.O Although troubling news, it is no use to use any other tool at this point.
And I was so looking forward to messing about with the Isometric Engine. (I found a promising resource)

On the other hand I have a tutorial on 3D Terrain generating that I can't wait to try out.
/and off I fly...!
