ISP confusion...

1000/100 is a Vumatel promotion some ISP's choose to provide that promotion where others not. The 1000/100 is not a permanent product it was suppose to end start of this year but has apparently been extended for another year by Vumatel. Some ISP's might also know they don't have the capacity to have users with those speeds...

Seeing as my FNO is Vumatel...so they wanted to end it?Why if I may ask?

So in a year's time you won't get the 1000/100 option from Vuma?

So i don't know the hard facts but i have been able to gather that information as multiple reps here mentioned it, it was a test from Vumatel since you can imagine 1000/100 users can put a lot of strain on a network, you could have 5 x 200 download users or one 1000 user.

A few other FNO's seem to be going the same route of offering the 1000 download packages so i personally imagine it would be around for longer than 1 more year.

1 Gbps has always been offered as a line option to ISPs by Vumatel. However, it was priced significantly higher than a 200 Mbps and ISPs then had to account for 1 Gbps of transit for these links. So the few ISPs who originally had 1 Gbps packages sold them for between R5 and 8k / month.

Two and a half years ago, Vumatel challenged ISPs to see if they could develop a product that would bring in 1 Gbps FTTH for under the benchmark $100 mark (+- R1500 at the time). ISPs who participated would get a discount on the 1 Gbps line rental; hence the 1 Gbps promo. The promo was meant to run for only 12 months; but popular demand and late entry by some ISPs saw it extended, then extended again. For now, there's no guarantee Vumatel will support it indefinitely, which is why we have to remind you that this is a promo and has a possible termination date. In reality, it's proved popular for Vumatel and we're hoping to see the price stick for a while to come.
