Not entirely relevant. Two years ago we were
using Windows XP or Apple Leopard or a
lesser version of UBUNTU. Technology advances
and I'm 100% sure your ISP had little or nothing
to do with that.
Very relevant. The base drivers for cost have not all changed. Yes, international bandwidth is a lot cheaper. Have local connectivity prices matched this decrease? Are ISP's able to use the local loop yet? Can ISP's terminate their own PPPoE connections yet? Is it possible to assign a static IP address directly to a customer, without using a MPLS or VPN connection to your own network first? Given how much have changed and how much have NOT changed, ISP's have made a good market offering here.
The issues here are stagnation and inertia, from the telco's. The ISP's that fight against this should be rewarded.
Seriously... I don't see why people can't complain if they are getting crap service from their ISP, it helps others choose in the future.
E.g. I was on afrihost capped and was going to move to uncapped, while i could've and it would probably have been easier to just stick with them, i decided to go to openweb because of all the good reports i've heard from them...
True, but some days it seems that everyone that posts are negative. There was a time when you entered a thread for a certain ISP and saw only bashing posts. People complain about slow speeds, and it's not what I see on my own link. This is also not a good picture, as not everyone had the same experience. As such, I defend an ISP where I think they are being unfairly maligned. Simply the flip side of the same coin. It also helps people to decide by stating that there are not JUST negative experiences.
