I have noticed some people who seem to very strenuously go out of their way to denigrate various ISP's whilst others do the opposite.

Obviously, this is human nature but some of the venom is quite astonishing.

I was with ISP A who were great and then uncapped happened and now I am with ISP B. If I am not happy with ISP B. I'll move to ISP C. It's simple.

Why do some people get so bitter about something so daft?

Anyway, random. Sorry. :p

If someone has consistently received bad service
during their time with an ISP (and even after) then
it makes sense for them to provide feedback for
other potential customers and to the company.

It seems clear to me that some ISP's are using
social media to promote their products. I would
even go as far as to say some employees are
registering to 'promote' ideas and stories that
benefit their employers.

It isn't just a simple matter of going elsewhere.
We should be able to pick a reputable company
and stay with them. The very fact that customers
have to keep hopping from one ISP to another
to achieve satisfaction tells us that something is
wrong.

/\

There's one. :p

*edit*

There is something wrong, of course. I suspect though, this has less to do with the ISP's and more to do with the restraints that they are forced to work within.

It makes no sense that a company would willfully provided a sub-par product.

A sub-par product. Oh right!

Look, people will try and sell anything. That's
human nature. If they can sell you rotten
oranges they will!

I suspect you will would consider my particular ISP as a rotten orange. How is it then that I have been perfectly satisfied with the service?

I could say you were an employee, but I won't.

People's usage and expectations do differ.

Perhaps you don't game or use torrents?

That's absurd. I'm not running around singing their praises. I've commented once or twice when they have acted in a manner I find impressive. If an ISP is going to have an active representative on a forum, that's commendable and I am sure said representative probably appreciates the odd bit of positive feedback.

Of course. I don't expect miracles from a cheap uncapped account.

Perhaps you don't game or use torrents?

Game? On an uncapped account? That's a bit silly. Torrents? Yes, I use torrents, not the fastest, but what else would I expect on a 384 line?

These campaigns often take on a life of their
own. Attracting fans and devotees is one
consequence. Look at the PS3 vs. XBOX
threads to see where that leads.

If an ISP offeres "unlimited internet", then
our hopes are already up, and we part
with our money expecting what they offer.

We can't easily sit back and say "well it's
cheap", and "what did we really expect."

Not that it's really cheap anyway.

When ISP's start turning off bits that
previously worked or performed better,
then they can expect a volley of criticism.

I agree it's not cheap, totally. It's sad we have to call what we are paying cheap.

I suppose I am just realistic (pessimistic?) about what to expect and confident (naĂŻve?) about a given ISP's desire to provide the best service they are able to, within the environment they are forced to work in.

I have to say that your 'realism' is widespread
in SA and will not help consumers get a better
level of service.

We all need to stand together and demand
better service.

Why does
this GingerBeer
dude press

so often???

I dunno... but I'm starting to focus on it more than the threads themselves now. It's freaking annoying huh? :p

My 2 Cents.... I am one of the guilty ones. I am fiercely loyal and can be particularly venomous about ISPs that have let me down or that I perceive to be less than honest. Take OpenWeb and Mweb. I love OpenWeb and I hate Mweb. But there are valid reasons behind the emotions. Mweb lied to me and treated me like a piece of crap. OpenWeb has rewarded my business with greater service and discounts.

Having said all of that though... I am also pretty fickle and will switch ISPs fairly easily. I guess I am more loyal to lower prices than anything else. So at the end of the day... the loyalty or hate is only skin deep.

But yeah... we are all well aware of the people picking sides on this board. I still don't understand though why anyone would stick with an ISP that is willing to lie, use unclear marketing or product description or use obfuscation to win or keep their customers.

Fair enough. :D

Look, this
Is a for serious
Thread.
Some people,
**** sakes.

:p

Well, to be fair, what did bandwidth cost two years ago?

Not entirely relevant. Two years ago we were
using Windows XP or Apple Leopard or a
lesser version of UBUNTU. Technology advances
and I'm 100% sure your ISP had little or nothing
to do with that.

Fair enough. :D

Seriously... I don't see why people can't complain if they are getting crap service from their ISP, it helps others choose in the future.
E.g. I was on afrihost capped and was going to move to uncapped, while i could've and it would probably have been easier to just stick with them, i decided to go to openweb because of all the good reports i've heard from them...
