I am currently on a Afrihost uncapped bundle, and I am situated in Cape Town.

I have for over 2 weeks now been struggling with day and/or night time download speeds of 4-7kbp/s while being told by support that my sync'd speed is great and line stats are exceptional. On top of this, I am unable to play World of Warcraft(EU) as I am getting latencies of 3-10k.

I have queried the Afrihost support staff 3 times in the past 3 weeks. One such query returned a 3 sentence email reply, that I must have "a game and/or download client running" in background. Now this is not exactly the response I was looking for since it had clearly worked fine 2 weeks ago and there is definetly no update out for WOW.

One other chap was very helpful and sounded promising, but I have not been able to get hold of him again.

Now that my /rant is over :( I would like to know. For general downloading about 50gb a month and playing World of Warcraft(EU) after hours on every other day, what uncapped provider would you guys suggest, as I am seriously considering the option of moving.

I would really appreciate help on this.
:o

@lantic R59 uncapped 'bolt-on'

http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/434391-lantic-R59-uncapped-bolt-on-feedback

The way the system works, is that it gives you uncapped internet usage between 6pm and 6am and over the whole weekend. You need to however have an @lantic capped account. They have 2 types of 'capped' accounts:
1) A capped account with set gigs (eg 5 gigs per month)
2) A Gig4gig account (whereby you get 1gb free every month and pay R15 per additional gig (R45 for unshaped gigs))

Once you have one of the above packages, you then get the bolt-on package for R59 per month.
So for EG - If you have the Gig4gig package (R0 per month, only charges per gig after the 1st gig) + bolt-on (R59 per month), you could honestly have unlimited off-peak internet for a total of R59.

OpenWeb. they got a Gamers King special going.
http://www.openweb.co.za/

Their internet does what it says, no fussing about.
My ping is 30ms on speedtest (I'm on the Gold package), and my downloads run CONSTANT (98% of full speed possible)
I also live in Cape Town.

I don't game anymore, but I'm willing to bet my left nut that they will give you what you need... especially if Gaming traffic is prioritised to their friggen platinum level accounts

I took the advice from MyBB members and dumped both Axxess and Afrihost for the OpenWeb deal.
Not looked back. Internet working again as it should.

Yeah this is actually a blerrie good deal now that I think about it - how the @$%#! do openWeb do it? Seriously?

MWeb/Afrihost/etc are all around R200 for 1Mb uncapped, which is comparable to OpenWeb's 1Mb "Standard" Uncapped. (lol, even if that)

Now, OpenWeb is basically selling a Standard Uncapped account for R176 (R25 less than MWeb/Afrihost), that Pumps not silver, not Gold, but PLATINUM level priority for gaming traffic, 24/7.
Not only that, but your other traffic bumps to a Gold level account after hours.

lol, I sound like an infomercial haha, but seriously, this is a super deal - especially for gamers.

@ Wackyza - I'd PM MrBeep if i was you, and ask for a trial account to test...

Dude...people on the forum must think that I work for OW -is how much I punt them! :D
It's just so hard not to recommend them. I really think they offer the best shaped uncapped service in the country -especially the Gold and Platinum services. :)

Dude... You won't go wrong with Openweb Gamers King package that on speacial or even their Silver Account are freaking awesome as i have done Multiple Test on it.

I just cancelled my Afrihost 10mb uncapped account. The last month has been my worst dsl experience ever. I could write an essay regarding the service but I think we all get the point.

Just opened one of the Openweb gaming accounts (8mb), will see how it goes as soon as they confirm payment and I'll report back.

From what I can tell Openweb doesn't offer dsl+line packages so I'm not sure what to do regarding the hosting of my line. Should I just let it be handled by Telkom again?

You can't go wrong with M-Web. Ask MWebGuy for a free trial. You won't regret it.

I have not personally used the OpenWeb packages, however it seems to also constantly receive positive reviews. Perhaps also get a trial from MrBeep.

I will be weighing up OpenWeb against Mweb. I have received an OpenWeb 48 hour trial but I been so busy at work that I haven't had a chance to try it.

Thanks for the advice guys. :D

ALWAYS leave your line with Telkom.

I trialled both the OpenWebs Gamers King and a Mweb account. I personally tested them latency wise and Mweb seems to take the caeke. Connection latency to EU wow servers @ 1pm this afternoon from Cape Town:

OpenWeb - 240(and jumping here and there).
Mweb - 160(constant).

Just thought some people might find it interesting.

You aren't comparing fairly though. The gamers account is a lot cheaper than MWEB. You should look at Openweb Silver or Gold.

The more I think about it, the more fake that 160ms sounds. It's impossible considering the distance and switches and relays the signal needs to go through. Your program is lying to you.

Rather post the speedtest stats using London server.

1Mbit uncapped/10Mbit line.

Also left Afrihost after the MTN switch and got a Openweb account for the same price. It's been smooth sailing ever since. When I do feel like the odd online game with buds the ping is stable and low. When I want to download a file the line max out at full speed. Frankly this is how uncapped should be
