ISP that recognizes local access

Nothing of the sort, we wish :o

TelkomInternet has the best deals at the moment - 10GB local free per 1GB international bandwidth you purchase.

No. You get 1GB blended bandwidth (local + international) then it automatically switches to local only bandwidth.

Hmm... That's not that helpful IMO. I think I'd rather get a normal account, and then use a local only account for news server downloading...

Yeah, but it works out a lot more expensive if you get a local-only SAIX account from another ISP.

And the IS news server fails.

carderne; check WebAfrica's deals... I'm sure they have the same thing.

They might cost a bit more (we talking within R10± more or less) but if you want support with your account, you get it!

You might think you don't need support, but trust me... you do - and WA give it!

The same thing as Cybersmarts local splitting? Because they don't.

You're actually talking exactly R50 more per month on a plain 5GB account compared to cheaper ISP's. Support would be great if WA was running their own ADSL network, but only Telkom can actually fix the problems with your line or the SA network/SAIX. They do try and speed that part up though and 24/7 support is nice.

carderne: The ISP has been around for a long time, but I wasn't sure about that new offer. I see its called Cap-extender, they have good prices for SAIX local only too. :D

nope, I'm with cybersmart and I just switch over to pre-paid when I get capped.

Well I cancelled the 30gig(IS) after the demise of the news server, but I used to have them both connected at the same time with routesentry. When my cybersmart 3gig runs out I use an axxess prepaid account instead.

My biggest problem with this is that everywhere they mention this on their website they also make sure to mention that it is "on promotion" with no mention of how long.

"For a limited time we are giving away Local Only bandwidth absolutely free! If you purchase any of our TelkomInternet AllAccess product ranges, you will receive local bandwidth at no extra charge during the promotional period."

The limited time concerns me. I cannot bring myself to choose an ISP based on something that may be taken away from me next month. It has been mentioned in reference to the Nashua deal, but this to me makes me smell a rat. If you are with Telkom already then good on you, you are scoring... seems this is being offered to lure users only for them to take it away at any time!

Ja I guess we don't know what'll happen the next month. Oh well, I'm making use of it while I can. :)
